Movie I'm looking forward to the most: Memoirs of a Geisha
They have a great cast for the three leading ladies: Ziyi Zhang (Sayuri Nitta), Michell Yeoh (Mameha) and Li Gong (Hatsumomo) and Ken Watanabe as the Chairman (Ironically, the movie is about Japenese Geishas and yet none of the 3 main geishas are being played by Japanese women)

This has to be my all-time favorite book and if anyone can pull this off it's director Rob Marshell (he directed Chicago)

1.  Thanks for the heads up ...
I didn't know they were going to do a movie! I'm so looking forward to it.

3. Blame Spielberg
He was attached to this project for the longest time but couldn't fit it into his schedule. I just don't understand why a trailer isn't out there yet, this movie is suppose to come out in December and Sony just got a website together. Hell I've seen previews for movies in 2006 already out there including a teaster trailer for "The DaVinci Codes"

2. Great book - hope the movie does it justice.
Maybe not the best book I have ever read, but certainly among the best I've read lately.

4. I know how you feel, I was so disappointed with "The Cider House Rules"
which is also one of my favorite books that was ruined in the movies.

BTW, welcome to DU :hi:

5. Great book, hope the movie is good too. Expect there to be some grumbling
about the fact that non-Japanese Asians are playing the geisha roles. The Japanese and the Chinese have historically been enemies, and they really don't look anything alike physically, (except to people who think all Asian people look alike). Strange casting decision.
