Hi everyone from San Francisco!
Having lots of fun out here at the National Conferance of State Legislators. Especially since just about every seminar includes food!
:9 Miss you guys though. This has been my first opportunity to use a puter here. I hope you all are doing well and not fighting too much in GD. :-)

See you when I get back.

-MM

9. Hi Proud Patriot!
I just got home. I wish I had had an opportunity to meet you and other Bay Area DUers but the conference kept us too busy and what little time we had was spent sightseeing, barhopping, ect. Loved ChinaTown and North Beach!

But funny you'd mention the weather... I found it to be much cooler then I expected. In fact it's warmer here in Maine. I was told to bring a jacket and boy, am I glad I did! Are you farther inland? It was very windy by the Bay.

Oh well, maybe someday I'll get there again just for fun rather then business. I'll definately look you up if I do.

15. this is GREAT weather
warm for here...enjoy it. it gets a bit nippy at night here in oakland, and as for sf :scared: a warm night is rare there.
when i first move here from los angeles, i made the mistake of thinking sun=warm. after a few days of getting caught in that mid-afternoon chill...i wised up.
and i never, ever go to sf without a jacket. i'll be over there later...going to a play. enjoy your visit :hi:

3. Can we send the TX legislators there?
Maybe that's where the TX Dems should go when they decide to leave the state.

10. Sorry. I would have loved too.
But they kept us way to busy at the conference. I learned alot about what the other States are doing about some of the same issues we share. I'm home now...

You should've seen the gala event they put on for us on Thursday night! Holy Cow! All the food and alcohol was free and there was a ton of it. I especially enjoyed the Napa Valley wine tasting section. :9. There were legislators from all over the country and even international policy makers... probably over 1 or 2K there at the Moscone West center that night. They had a great band too. Lots of fun.

One question though... how the hell can you guys afford to live in California? Lodging tax 14%!?! A can of soda 2 bucks? And don't even get me started on cigarettes! If our smokes ever get that high here, maybe it'll be enough to finally make me quit. A whole different standard of living would apply I guess though. An average Maine salary is only about 22k anually. But then again I was in a touristy section of SF. Maybe it's not as bad elsewhere?

Anyway, it was lots of fun. Boy, you guys are liberal! That was quite refreshing. I couldn't get over the commercials, local media and op-ops in the SF Chronicle! I hope to visit again and next time just for fun. Maybe I could meet you guys then. :-)

I can't believe anyone would actually vote for these people! :eyes:

Just kidding. You know we all love you, MM. How about a hug? ;-)

13. NCSL paid for it
NCSL (National Conferance of State Legislators- which runs on donations)

-albeit with some great discounts from Bay Area restaurant onwers and wine industry folks eager to have an opportunity to display their food and products. The city of SF provided the Moscone West Ctr, the band, and trolley car transport, but I'm sure we legislators made up for their generosity with tourist spending.

11. Took your advice
and went to North Beach, but couldn't find the place you mentioned. It may have had something to do with all the Italian food and wine we consumed. No one wanted to do much walking in the cold after that. What a bunch of gluttons we Maine Legislators are! :-)

8. hope you're having fun
Must be a huge crowd. One of my legislators was detained at the airport on his way there for having a gun in his bag. We get what we pay for in NH!!

I hope you get to spend some time doing tourist stuff. I love San Francisco!!
