BIRD LOVERS: more bird photos
these are actually photos i took way before i had a digital camera and photoshop. these were scanned from either slides or prints and modified with a much less sophisticated photo software.

this is a great horned owl i photographed around 1982 in a forest preserve district outside of chicago:

these are burrowing owls that i photographed near my old apartment in the miami area:

here's a great blue heron i photographed on the anhinga trail in everglades national park:

here's a pelican photographed on key largo:

1. Excellent job
The Burrowing Owls pic is very cool.

I used to love watching Pelicans glide over in Florida. I loved the sounds and smells of that environment.

What kind of camera do you use?

4. they're diurnal.....
....well actually, i guess they're crepuscular, meaning they're active at twilight unlike most owls which tend to be nocturnal.

8. Now that you have the digital Rebel, with the 1.6x
lens multiplication factor, you can take advantage...I have a Canon 10-D, and when I put the 100-400 zoom on it with a 2X teleconverter, I have, essentially, a 1320mm lens that I can more or less handhold, because of the stabilizer.

But I wouldn't recommend it.

If you're using a tripod, and don't mind focusing manually, I bet you could find some bargains in old Canon FD telephoto lenses, which you can use on the digital Rebel with an adapter.

9. yeah, the 1.6x multiplication factor is excellent
i had the 300mm zoom image stabilizer lens but wasn't happy with the sharpness so i sold it. i'm just using a basic canon 75-300 lens right now but i plan on picking up the 70-200 professional series lens on my next trip to the states.

11. Ah, Costa Rica. I'd like to go there with my cameras
some day. I was involved with a project to build a casino there, and thought it would allow me to travel there as part of the business, but the people involved in the project turned out to be impractical dreamers.

Still, because of the research I did as part of the project, I learned a fair amount about Costa Rica, and it sounds lke a wonderful place.

I remember that people worried if it would continue to be a wonderful place after Aria, but you seem to have done well.
