Ever heard of this, paying for employment verification?
I'm just totally in shock right now. The company I worked for for 20 years has outsourced employment verification.
Active employees are not allowed to provide references, so in the past there was an HR number that prospective employers could call to verify employment dates and salary.
Now they've outsourced this function and CHARGE the prospective employer for verifying MY employment dates and salary!
Have you heard of this before?
I am so bullshit right now, this is screwing up a job opportunity for me!
1. Yes, my company charged a mortgage company $10 for a VOE
the last time I bought a house. Larger companies do this, I agree it's stupid, but it is what it is. It shouldn't be screwing up the opportunity for you... I guess you could offer to reimburse them, or pay for it yourself but have it sent directly to them.
If the 3rd party does NOT tell your employer when someone calls verifying employment, that might be a good thing. Doesn't tip your hand that you're looking for a new job.
But making the prospective employer pay is a little strange... any idea how much it costs?
I haven't looked for an outside job in years. I can't believe an employer would prohibit giving a reference. Or rather, I can believe it in this climate, but I don't think it's constitutional.
