Any tips for my web site?
I'm looking for anyone who knows about blogging etc. to give me tips on what, content-wise, could make my site better. Suggestions? I've e-mailed some big time bloggers to see if they could add me to their blogroll, so hopefully I'll gain some popularity soon. Thanks.

2. Comments
(I e-mailed the following comments to you; I guess I should have just posted them here.)

I saw your post on DU. I'm new to Blogs myself, so I don't know know what the standards are. However, my initial impression was very favorable. Your site is very attractive and clean - not cluttered or confusing. It's far better than the Blog someone advertised yesterday.

I do have a couple suggestions. You must be a reasonably good web designer, as I see you're using style sheets. But you might benefit from also adding a doctype and getting your pages validated. At the very least, it would add a touch of class.

Also, I believe one of the best ways to fight corporate corruption is to take on Microsoft, and there's no better way of doing it than on a website. You should consider promoting open-source software and urging visitors to download the Mozilla browser. Some people have called me a hypocrite, because I'm still using Windows on my computer. On the other hand, the Linux community is clueless when it comes to politics. I'm moving my sites to Linux servers and plugging "freedomware" and Mozilla. See my new home page at http://www.geobop.org as an example. I even started a new website, http://www.freedomware.us/ I hope to flesh it out in the next few weeks.

Finally, feel free to link to another of my websites - http://www.jail4bush.org If you do link, let me know, and I'll give you a reciprocal link. I plan on revising that site soon, too, and I want to add a links page.

3. A gentle suggestion
News links are great, but I find them elswhere (mainly here). How about developing your own voice. Write a little more about what you think. Keep it as short as you need to to convey your thoughts, but let's hear what you have to say -- that's what blogging is all about.

I'm experimenting with different things. I know what you mean, and I'll probably end up talking about the issues more, but right now I'm kind of compiling things, throwing in the soundbyte, and seeing if people like it.

5. Question
No suggestions yet...but I've been thinking about putting together a website and wondered if you have to pay BlogSpot? If so, how much is it? I want to do it cheaply but not GeoCities cheap. Man, that is not the way to go. I tried it and it seems very limited (either that or I am just not saavy enough to figure it out!)

Thanks and congrats on getting yours started!

6. Nice and clean
I agree with the poster above who suggested you expand a little bit on your own comments. Nothing too long, but just enough to give it more substance on its own. You have an interesting take on things, and a clear concise way of expressing yourself.

This is a particular gem that ought to get more widely circulated. A link to the source would be helpful.

"Hypocrites
Dick Cheney's assessment of the FIRST Gulf War seems to almost parallel liberal arguments against Gulf War II. This is QUITE interesting:

"I think that the proposition of going to Baghdad is also fallacious. I think if we were going to remove Saddam Hussein we would have had to go all the way to Baghdad, we would have to commit a lot of force because I do not believe he would wait in the Presidential Palace for us to arrive. I think we'd have had to hunt him down. And once we'd done that and we'd gotten rid of Saddam Hussein and his government, then we'd have had to put another government in its place.

What kind of government? Should it be a Sunni government or Shi'i government or a Kurdish government or Ba'athist regime? Or maybe we want to bring in some of the Islamic fundamentalists? How long would we have had to stay in Baghdad to keep that government in place? What would happen to the government once U.S. forces withdrew? How many casualties should the United States accept in that effort to try to create clarity and stability in a situation that is inherently unstable?"

Amen, Dick."
