Aimee Mann's on Letterman.

Dave sure is getting talent lately.

Voices Carry

I'm in the dark, I'd like to read his mind
but I'm frightened of the things I might find
Oh, there must be something he's thinking of
to tear him away
when I tell him that I'm falling in love
why does he say

Hush hush
keep it down now
voices carry

I try so hard not to get upset
because I know all the trouble I'll get
oh, he tells me tears are something to hide
and something to fear
and I try so hard to keep it inside
so no one can hear

Hush hush
keep it down now
voices carry

He wants me
but only part of the time
He wants me
if he can keep me in line

Hush hush
keep it down now
voices carry

hush hush, darling, she might overhear
oh, no-voices carry
he said shut up he said shut up
oh God can't you keep it down
voices carry
I wish he would let me talk

1. I love Aimee
When she and Jules Shear were dating it brought out the best in both of their songwriting.

Both should be much more famous than they are..

5. She's still married to Micheal Penn, no?
The soundtrack to Magnolias is one of my favorite discs to repeat

6. Yeah, she is
He's another that should be alot more famous than he is.

I love the "Magnolia" soundtrack; that's in my top 5 favorite films of all-time, and her songs were perfect in it.

7. Wow..I have to agree that it's in my top 5
The complexity of Momentum just sleighs me every time I hear it...and I like Micheal's stuff too, but it's not on the scale with Aimee...

12. Oh yeah...Paul Anderson Thomas does some great flicks
but that scene...where life is so absurd it can rain frogs really moved me...I think about it often...really great movie

and one more reason to love William H. Macy...heck, I could even tolerate Cruise in it

14. Everybody is great in that film
I've been trying to find an audio clip of Jason Robards' "regret" speech to play on my show forever; the scenes between Henry Gibson and William H Macy are powerfull, too.

PTA's father was Ghoulardi, the legendary horror movie host in Clevo, too. I was too young to see him when I was growing up here, but got to see some of his clips when Houlihan And Big Chuck (the show that replaced Ghoulardi)would play them...

And I didn't know about PTA's father..but that makes sense...several scenes in Boogie Nights got me too

9. Have you heard Suzzy Roche and Jules doing "Cold Hard Wind?"
Damn near moving. Very American.

11. No!
What record is that off of? I'd love to play it on my show. Jules is sadly underappreciated; "The Third Party" is a classic..

4. Muchas Gracias
I love her, but she should eat some chicken, or something besides broccoli.

She sounds and looks great. :)

I so admire her talent and tenacity.

13. Love HER! Thanks for the heads up--
Letterman hasn't aired here, yet. (On west coast).

The video for Voices Carry is one of my all time faves (and of course the song is too).
