Ever watch MEMENTO backwards?
There's an option (you have to hunt for it) on the special edition DVD that lets you watch the movie, chapter by chapter, backwards. This way, you get to see the timeline "in order".

It starts by playing the end credits backwards, the names going UP the screen instead of down. Cool.

4. WARNING
The navigation on the Special Edition DVD is designed like a mental aptitute test on a microfiche machine. Really.

Super cool and eccentric, but might frustrate the shit out of Joe Moviegoer. I had to go to dvdeastereggs.com to figure out how to make it work:

5. One of my all time faves...
Watching it that way can't be quite as good, though. Must start out pretty slow, since isn't the 'beginning' just 20 minutes of black and white, of Guy talking to "Teddy" about Sammy Jenkis?

Yes, that IS how it's presented -- I just popped it in. It's not ALL talking to "Teddy" on the phone...there's all of that "you really need to have a system" voiceover, with him checking out his tats and maps, and Sammy's tests and injections of his wife, and Leonard's meeting with Sammy's wife.

8. you made me remember this article
http://archive.salon.com/ent/movies/feature/2001/06/28/memento_analysis/index3.html

So, if you want to look at the story as it would actually transpire chronologically, rather than in the disjointed way Nolan presents it -- oh, will this ever be fun to do on DVD! -- you would watch the black-and-white scenes in the same order (1 to 21), followed by the black-and-white/color transition scene (22/A). You would then have to watch the remaining color scenes in reverse order, from B up to V, finishing with the opening credit sequence, in which we see Teddy meet his maker at Leonard's hands:

(snip)

Reading the film this way, here's what happens in real-world chronology. While things may seem confusing when you first watch the film, Nolan has been very careful to make sure that, when reassembled, everything in the main part of the film -- everyone's behavior and motivations -- makes perfect sense.

10. Really?
I was gonna do that, except I thought I was going to have to program the machine to do it. This makes it easier. I just got the DVD not too long ago.

12. One more thing
The first scene (where the Polaroid "undevelops", slips back into the camera, and the bullet flies back into Leonard's gun from Teddy's head) plays FORWARD AT THE END in this backward version, so that Teddy is shot, the picture is taken, and we watch it develop -- as the opening credits roll backwards.

Fuckin' A. :D

15. One of my favorite movies of all time.
I saw it three times in the theater. Have a DVD of it. Have any of you read the original short story it was based on? It's one of the special features of the regular DVD.

I guess I should get the special edition one.
