Holy Flippin' Fuck. Firefox just ate all my bookmarks.
Extensive political must-read bookmarks documenting all the dirt on the Maladministration. Plus a bunch of stuff under the general heading of "Cool Shit." All gone. All my SO's education-related bookmarks as well (she's a newly-minted teacher). She's going to freak. And then she's going to *FREAK.*

UGH! My wa has been destroyed!

And of course there's the belated realization that I heard about this once, right here on DU, and didn't take action immediately. Flippin' FUCK.

5. go to this site
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=38&sid=587a0a620e6659e7f3df515c74f15993

read the stickys and search for your problem in the forum. your bookmarks are in a folder on your computer; you can restore them and you will find instructions at this forum how to. If you have to post, be sure to include your OS in the query and SP # (eg: XP Pro, SP1)-all that figures into getting the right answer.

Bookmark the page-it is invaluable.

7. Try the bookmark synchronizer ...
Same thing has happened to me several times but I'm manage to backup every now and then. Then I ran across this little gem..

http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/booksync

Works like a charm and saves me all sorts of hassles moving from the home comp to the work comp. Does require FTP access.

8. Happened to me years ago
with my first crash. Now, every week I export all of my bookmarks to a floppy disk. Be sure to delete the previous save or you will just add to it and will have marks that you might have deleted.

9. POSSIBLE SOLUTION
Before the bookmarks disappeared, did you see the profile dialog box, and were you told that your default profile was in use and you should pick another one? And there wasn't another one so you created a new one?

If that has happened to you, all of your bookmarks, extensions, themes, saved passwords, etc are still in your default profile, they haven't gone anywhere, you just need to switch back to it.

Close Firefox and go to start -> run -> "firefox.exe" -profilemanager and select the default profile and click start firefox.

If you ever see the profile box again, cancel it, open the task manager, close all running "firefox.exe" processes, and try again.

10. Sadly, no
I was in the process of adding a bookmark when my computer mysteriously decided to reboot. When I got back up, they were gone.
