7000th post is for Sister Sharon

She is an inspiration and my true friend. Currently, she is the Chair of the Religious Studies and Philosophy Departments at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. To many who take her courses, she is the first religious instructor to help students question the letter of Church Teaching and the Bible. She also teaches spirituality, that God loves us with "womb love," as mother who loves the child she carries. That said, she is pro-choice in regards to the law. "Making abortion illegal, won't stop it," she teaches in Marriage & Family.

"You students have power, and you should organize," she always says. Let's hope for many more years of inspiration and happiness. You go, Sister. :toast:

It took me the better part of two years to make that many posts and you know that I'm not exactly the most reticent member of this board, LOL!:D

Congratulations! Well-spoken and well done! And while you have toasted your beloved Sister Sharon, who I have no doubt is both wise and inspirational, you must always remember that both your words and your soul are your own. You may have learned many things both in your studies and on this board, but the truth is available to everyone. It's whether or not that you choose to embrace it that grants you your freedom and gives you a voice. That you've chosen truth over dogma and freedom over fear has become evident over these past 7000 posts. Keep up the wonderful work, keep learning and growing, and here's to 7000 more!!!

You do have to think for yourself and I have a personal relationship with God which no one can take away from me, but I appreciate the fact that there are still a lot of great religious leaders.

And there's nothing wrong with getting inspiration and acquiring knowledge from an entire rainbow of excellent sources. That's how we learn and how we grow. But the important thing is to know what you think and believe. DU is an excellent place to find that out.:-)

I wish they had special Internets greeting cards for that. Sister Sharon sounds very wise. It is one of the saving graces of the Catholic Church that such phenomenal women have chosen to serve it with such devotion.

edit: I just looked her up on the Internets. She's SSND like the sisters that taught me in high school.

The Sisters of St. Joseph taught me in high school at St. Mary's Academy. (Our team name was the Kerry Blues, which oddly describes how I felt after the last election.)
