Poll question: i have spent a disproportionate time on DU today
reading and posting. possibly more time than i spent doing anything else and certainly more time than i used to spend per day when i DUed regularly. so, in contrition, what should i do tomorrow?

5. i've seen a few of your posts today
you totally rock!

for whatever reason, skinner organising the DU activist corps has done quite a bit to pull me back to DU.

of course NSMA can certainly help keep me drawn! ;-) :loveya:

9. well, progmom
for the past long time i have read far more than i have posted - and i enjoy your posts too. you come across as fun, funny, smart, involved, informed, realistic, and a little bit sarcastic.

i've always liked DU. but i truly appreciate some of it's members!

10. well....you earned my instant respect
and then i saw some of the people from DU whom i love dearly paying homage to you, and my initial suspicions were confirmed - we are a far better place with you than without you.

thanks for the compliments....

13. Hi, shugah
It's not easy to answer that. The novel's about 90%-95% complete, depending on how much I'll need to rewrite, how many transitional chapters are still necessary, etc.

Essentially, I'm in the proofreading stages right now. But if I was writing it from scratch, I could probably manage about 5,000-8,000 words on a really good day.

And, no, this isn't my first novel. It's my third, although I've yet to publish one (had an agent once, tho).

14. don't proofread yourself too much
i'd say one proofread is good and necessary. if you proof it beyond that you are trying to see it with the eye of whomever will be reading your subscription. you have to remember that it is not thier story.

just MHO - with a few things published and many not. (no novels published).

15. Well, unfortunately...
...editors who expect camera-ready manuscripts even from first-timers look at it differently. And experience tells me that when you're writing a 100,000+ word ms, you're going to inevitably let more than a few howlers get by. You should see all the mistakes I make even in my blog posting before I proofread them and I type them first on Word before it even gets to my editing page. There's nothing wrong with making your book the best it can be, especially when you have an agent representing you. And, of course, you win them over before an acquisitions editor even sees your book.
