What turns your brain to mush?
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 08:34 AM by johnnie
At one time, not long ago, I had a lot easier of a time thinking. I developed a decent list of words in my arsenal and could carry on a conversation of just about any subject with relative ease.
In the last few years I have become mentally lazy. I use the same 48 words over and over and my interests in subjects have decreased to next to nil. Once in a while a spark of intellectual ions flow and I get a bit of interest, but then 10 minutes later my brain gets lazy again and I grab the remote.
I am trying to figure out why my passion packed up and split, and where the hell did it go? I haven't written a song, scribbled with charcoal, developed a new interest or created *anything* in what seems like forever. I'm not depressed or anything, just a little pissed off.
Is there a time you hit your intellectual peak and then it takes a dive? Did an alien take over my body and the real me is floating around the cosmos in perpetual blahness? Is all the crack I smoke killing my brain cells?
I am just wondering if any of you have ever gone through a two year or so dry spell?

On edit: I don't smoke crack..lol. I just put that in there as an attempt at a joke, but I thought I better put in this disclaimer so I don't get any replies with a drug addiction hotline number.

2. Yes! I have had the same thing happen to me.
It's hard for me to read or even get out and do things the past year. Sometimes words I used to know are hard for me to remember now. I don't know what's going on... If you figure anything out let me know...:)

6. Seriously - are you getting enough sleep?
When I travel too much and get only 5-6 hours of sleep a night for consecutive nights, I become almost completely dysphagic. Have you tried sleeping more, or have you eliminated that as the source of the problem?

8. I had some sleep problems a few years ago
I have always had cycles of insomnia and a few years ago I had a long one. The last year has been pretty good though. Maybe I should shoot for 7 hours instead of my usual 6 though.

7. I think we get a little
weary of all the probems of the world, the country, and our lives. We are constantly bombarded with bad news. That's why some people go on a "news blackout" now and then---to get out of the "funk" and rejuvenate. Try to do things that boost your mood. Go out with some friends and have a good time. Take a walk everyday and think about that new song. Pick up the charcoal and draw something. Read a book about something you know nothing about.

9. Thanks
I can see why people go on a "news blockout", but I am an information junkie and I would probably be worse off if I hid myself from what is going on.
I did recently pick up a book on physics and that is pretty interesting. I don't know much about physics so I am hoping that will give me something to think about for a while.
I also think that I need to create some new goals in life. I have basically reached all the ones I set for myself.

10. Setting new goals is a good idea.
You peaked, looked around, and couldn't figure out where to go next. New goals in your life will give you the opportunity to peak again.
