I went to Taco Bell for lunch and something isn't right
I do not like that food, but once in a while I go there because it's quick and close by.
I ate my food and took a drink and a few seconds later this bitter taste came from the back of my throat. If you ever let an aspirin melt in your mouth, that's what it is like. So now I am waiting for either the violent expulsion of my lunch, an afternoon of hallucinations or the sweet kiss of death.
Then again, maybe nothing will happen. It's been about 20 minutes and I am still in a standard state of mind (whatever that may be).

4. You must have been given
One of their new Mexi-Melt Chimichungas de la Cha-Cha-Cha with the melted aspirin topping instead of cheese.

9. I had this thing that happened to me twice
One time it was about 12 years ago and the other was about 10 years ago. I was getting really sharp pains in my stomach that would knock me to the ground. They would last about a minute then go away for about 20 minutes. Both times it lasted about 2 days. It was some of the worst pain I have ever had.
Both times I had eaten Arby's. I don't know if it was their food, but if not, then it was a strange coincidence.

21. Had you eaten a salad or a sandwich with lettuce on it?
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 12:44 PM by davsand
I dunno about now, but WAAAAY back when I worked for them they used a preservative on lettuce that some people are allergic too. We posted a sign to alert consumers that it was used just in case they were allergic to it...

Frankly, unless you live someplace where you have a strong public health or public safety dept. that does regular inspections, you are in danger every time you eat in a restaurant. I live in a community that does frequent and stringent health inspections in restaurants, and even here, we have occasional outbreaks of food-borne illness.

When I am traveling, I look for chain restaurants because many chains have specified clean-up procedures that are designed to protect consumers. It isn't as good as a health inspection, but it is something, at least. ANY restaurant can make you sick if the management isn't diligent about training employees, however.

If you REALLY want to creep yourself out just consider the idea that the kid making crappy wages behind that counter may have just gone to the bathroom and not washed his hands...

:scared:

However, just to ADD to your discomfort, one of the filthiest kitchens I EVER have ever seen was in a top name up-scale hotel chain. Literally, there were roaches stuck in the grease that covered that kitchen floor.

24. Yikes
Roaches stuck in grease? :puke:
I don't remember what I had back then. but the stuff I had today had lettuce in it.
I don't usually go for fast food. In fact, I don't usually like to eat anywhere but home. I have heard a lot of stories from people who have worked in various places, and I really feel uneasy about most places.

12. Good lord.
I had the same experience at a McDonald's but it burned my mouth. The burger itself was cold, but I felt a chemical-type burn, although slight, very scary. I tried to make myself throw up, to no avail.

I hope you're ok. Will you keep us posted?

Almost a metallic taste. Or if you have ever "tested" a 9 volt battery with your tongue, but it was in the back of my throat..LOL. OK, this is starting to worry me more as I explain it.

My bosses told me to tell you to drink a lot of water to dilute whatever it may be. They're not doctors, but these guys really know their stuff.

14. I despise Taco Hell!
Spent 2 nights in hospital b/c of food poisoning that my wife and I think came from taco hell. I have NEVER experienced pain like that in my life, for awhile I thought I might not make it.

Anyway, do not worry unless you start violently puking:puke:

16. What was the pain like?
I might have had that before (as posted above), but I don't like doctors and I suffered at home. Was it really sharp pains then a few minutes of relief, then sharp pains and so on?
It's been an hour since I ate that crap, but I think I'll add Taco Bell to my list of places to stay away from. My "to go to" list is getting rather short.

17. Ya, intense sharp pains
Not to get into too much detail but it started with the pains and then stuff started coming out both ends, non stop. The pains did not come and go but were constant for about 4 hours until we went to the hospital.

Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 12:48 PM by youspeakmylanguage
I eat a lot of unhealthy food, but even I finally had to draw the line with Taco Bell. There is something wrong with their products that crosses the line from unhealthy to simply undigestable. It's almost like it's not even designed to be sustaining in any way - it's just a colorful mess of chemicals and sub-standard food product that gives you the impression and taste of food - faux-food!
