Snakebit
Dictionary.com:
Experiencing a period of misfortune or inability to succeed.
A hundred people can walk through the same area unharmed, but it's the truly unlucky soul who gets bitten.

It started with Miz t. tripping and falling off the dock a couple of months ago. Broken and cracked ribs, one night in the hospital, days of pain and discomfort.
(She's mended nicely, thanks. Back to her old self, pretty much.)

Then the water leak. Last month's water bill was over $100.
Holy Moley! It's usually around $10 or $15.
We checked all faucets and toilets.
Nuthin'.
Under all sinks.
Nuthin'.
We looked for a leak all over the lot. From the street shutoff all the way back to the bay.
Nuthin'.
The next morning Miz t. reported a large patch of dollarweed next to the deck that looked "wet".
It was thriving in a puddle of water that was slowly flowing from UNDER the deck.
The deck is about 6" above grade, so no way to get under it.
After I'd pulled up 8-10' boards I found a bubbling spring.
Dug down about 2' to find the main water line. There was a shutoff valve in the line. We have no idea what it's purpose was. There didn't seem to ever have been a way to get to it, plus there was no knob attached. Just a valve. And the fitting on one side was cracked and spraying water.
Why just now? After 15 years of being peacefully buried there?
I fixed it.

Next day the microwave imploded. It had been on for about 20 seconds and then just went "pop" and died.
Bought new micro.

That afternoon the dishwater leaked a big puddle on the kitchen floor.
Bought new dishwasher.

Next day the clutch went out on our riding mower.
Got new clutch installed.

A couple of days later I woke up with one eye glued shut and grainy stuff on the lid. Bag under my eye much larger than normal. Blocked oil glands in the lower lid according to the ophthalmologist. Antibiotic drops.

Three days ago I woke with an odd feeling of pressure in my left ear. Well, just in front of my left ear, actually.
TMJ Disorder. Temporormandibular Joint. Doc says causes and treatment are nebulous.
"Maybe it'll just go away."

We been tryin' real hard to be good and do right.
We voted for Kerry.
Miz t. goes to church every Sunday.
We like kids, kittens, and puppies.
I haven't pulled the wings off of houseflies in YEARS.
So why do we seem to be in an unending sh*tstorm?

Contributions to help alleviate medical and household costs may be sent to the
"trof and Miz t. Financial Recovery and Whoopee Fund".
Thank you.

They got snakebit
No chance of winning
They got snakebit
And the devil stands there grinning

1. Oh my holy god, my dear trof....I can hardly believe this awful tale of
woe! But of course I do...We'll have to start calling you Job, after the poor bastard in the Old Testament...

Maybe, just maybe, you've gotten all the bad things out of the way that were going to happen over the next few years, and now it'll be smooth sailing for a very long time!

We can dream, right? You bet! My complete and total sympathies...Nice bit of poetry, BTW...

:wtf:

4. I actually left out Hurricane Dennis
which thankfully took a last second jog to the east and didn't do us any physical harm.

We just spent a day hauling all the outdoor crap in and boarding windows. Then evacuated and spent a week in Boston with our daughter & family. That part was nice, but we just hadn't planned to visit right then.

Then another day unboarding and unhauling.
bother
:-(

Not quite toothless yet, but it's probably just a matter of time.
Brush your teeth 3 times a day.
Floss.

So I cheered up and, sure enough, things got worse.

12. So sorry things suck, sometimes you just go through a period of
time that sucks. '92 was Hubby and mine's. After each increasingly worse mishap, we'd look at each other and say "This will be a funny story someday, not today, but someday". And now it is. Try and keep that in mind, it helped us.
