30. Hi One Eighty, are you still there?
Sorry you are lonely. I don't get lonely very often. Maybe because I have two kids and they're always around! Arrrggggghhh. I try to tell myself to enjoy every minute because my son will be away in college in two years and my daughter will be a full blown teenager by then, and probably want nothing to do with me. My hubby is away half of the year (merchant mariner) so I'll have lots of "alone" time eventually. But sometimes I do wish my husband would just back up the two kids and go away for a few days. Ohhhhhh, to be home alone! What a treat! I must admit, I do enjoy my own company. And I always have great friends that are just a phone call away and....my fab DU friends. How could I ever be lonely! :-)

Do you have kids(grandkids)? Tell me about yourself. I know a lot of DUers seem to know you but I'm afraid I'm not one them. Introduce yourself! :-)

34. Hi Sperk!
I have written about two hundred stories here

on DU, about my family, grand kids, dogs, ponies,

love stories, sad stories, happy stories. Our friends on DU

encouraged me to collect them into book form for

our grandchildren, which I have done.

What does your husband do in the Merchant Marines?

I was a commercial fisherman in South Carolina for a number of years.

PM me if you want. We can swap sea stories!

45. How'd I miss so many stories? I think I scan too quickly....
I don't really have sea stories. That would be my hubby. He's sailed as third, second, chief mate and captain. Natch he prefers to sail captain but those jobs are difficult to get. I thinks fishermen have a much more difficult job, I don't think it's quite so physically challenging to be on a merchant ship. We have a friend who is an electrician but spends a lot of time helping his dad on his fishing boat. A little too rocky for me!

I work as a math tutor in a middle school in Massachusetts. I think I'll only be doing it for another year though. Time to move on. I'm not sure where I'm headed but I always seem to end up where I need to be, ya know? I think I'll start by spending next summer (don't have to work summers! Yeah! I am so spoiled!) I'll spend next summer working for who ever gets the Dem nomination. I think it will be Kerry but who knows? I'll work for anyone against Bush but I must admit, I lost some of the wind in my sails when Gore dropped out. Damn. Damn. Damn. Oh well, whatareyagonnado?

Let's see....what else.....I recently quit smoking (again!) and I'm trying to stay away from the nasty things but I have to admit...I love smoking! Why oh why don't I love jogging, broccoli and tofu? Maybe my next life. I'll have to add that to naturally skinny, beautiful and rich, which I am definitely coming back as ALL THREE!!! Damn it!!!

Do you believe in re-incarnation?

31. Peter Gabriel
The wretched desert takes its form, the jackal proud and tight
In search of you, I feel my way, though the slowest heaving night
Whatever fear invents, I swear it make no sense
I reach through the border fence
Come down, come talk to me

In the swirling, curling storm of desire unuttered words hold fast
With reptile tongue, the lightning lashes towers built to last
Darkness creeps in like a thief and offers no relief
Why are you shaking like a leaf
Come on, come talk to me

Ah please talk to me
Won't you please talk to me
We can unlock this misery
Come on, come talk to me

{Chorus 1:}
I did not come to steal
This all is so unreal
Can't you show me how you feel now
Come on, come talk to me
Come talk to me {x2}

The earthly power sucks shadowed milk from sleepy tears undone
From nippled skin as smooth as silk the bugles blown as one
You lie there with your eyes half closed like there's no - one there at all
There's a tension pulling on your face
Come on, come talk to me

Won't you please talk to me
If you'd just talk to me
Unblock this misery
If you'd only talk to me

{Chorus 2:}
Don't you ever change your mind
Now your future's so defined
And you act so deaf and blind
(And you act so deaf so blind)
Come on, come talk to me
Come talk to me {x2}

I can imagine the moment
Breaking out through the silence
All the things that we both might say
And the heart it will not be denied
'Til we're both on the same damn side
All the barriers blown away

I said please talk to me
Won't you please come talk to me
Just like it used to be
Come on, come talk to me
I did not come to steal
This all is so unreal
Can you show me how you feel now
Come on, come talk to me
Come talk to me {x2}

I said please talk to me
If you'd just talk to me
Unblock this misery
If you'd only talk to me
{Chorus 2}

41. Hi 180!
I have a new dog. Is that good news or what?! He is from the SPCA shelter and he looks almost exactly like my schnauzer/lab mix 10 year old, Sirius (see Sirius at the DU Gallery - Pets). I changed the new dog's name from Deon Sanders (doh!) to Canicula de Bastille. Canicula (we will call him Kanick and Nickula) is the Latin name for the dog star (Alpha Canis Major); Sirius is the Greek name for the same star.

If anyone can host a picture, I'll send it and post it to this thread. That way Canicula can keep 180 company tonight!

A note for when you come back to DU all medicated up! I get lonely sometimes and spend WAY too much time cruising DU. A real sanity saver in more ways than one. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello. I love your stories but I must have missed some of them. 200 is a lot and I'll bet your grandkids will cherish them, a wonderful legacy for you to leave them. It just reinforces my feeling that you are really a great guy. I am glad to "know" you. Gonna go to sleep now, gosh the early farm mornings are getting to me but it is hay time and was 118 degrees (comfort index) the other day so early mornings are the only way. Talk to you later. I'm single with no kids and most of my good friends are out of state/country. Sometimes I get terribly lonely. But I can be such a solitary creature that even having my cats around and demanding my attention can irritate me.

Some of the SF DU folks have been talking about doing a national get- together, maybe in Las Vegas where it would be easy/cheap to get there.

Whattcha think?

54. Hi 180
I can relate to a degree.

When Marie was alive, we were in the same state until I started listening / talking to her. Nothing against you or Mrs. 180, just wanted to share.

Now that she's gone, my theme is:

He's a real nowhere Man,
Sitting in his Nowhere Land,
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.
Doesn't kave a point of view,
Knows not where he's going to,
Isn't he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere Man, please listen,
You don't know what you're missing,
Nowhere Man, the world is at your command.

He's as blind as he can be,
Just sees what he wants to see,
Nowhere Man can you see me at all?
Doesn't kave a point of view,
Knows not where he's going to,
Isn't he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere Man, don't worry,
Take your time, don't hurry,
Leave it all till somebody else
lend you a hand.

He's a real Nowhere Man,
Sitting in his Nowhere Land,
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.

I knew it was bad when she was IMing her friends and I was on my laptop working when she emailed me and asked when I wanted dinner.

I stopped doing what I was doing because I realized that she not only needed / wanted me, she needed/wanted "me". Yes, there still is a TON of "woulda/coulda/shoulda" for me on a daily basis - after all, she was 30, I was 35, but I'm trying to hang on. I really feel old for 37.
