I'd kill myself if I tried this stuff or at least injure myself horrifically

1. Before I even clicked this I thought "Rodney Mullen"
Most entertaining skater around. Seek out the Rodney Mullen vs. Daewon Song video series. Amazing shit.

5. What's funny is that Mullen was doing most of the technical flip tricks
and stuff back in the 80's and winning freestyle contests, but nobody paid any attention because it wasn't vert or street. The funny thing was that his boards at that time (with an equal amount of tail and nose, very little concave, and no real shape to speak of other than "rectangle") were considered weird and useless by most other skaters.

Then he just kind of disappeared for 5 or 6 years.

In the mid 90's, kids started doing more freestyle inspired tricks and instead of just doing them on flat ground did the same tricks into boardslides and grinds. Then Rodney came out of hiding and schooled them all.

BTW, the boards evolved too, pretty much any board you see available today closely resembles was riding in the 80's. The only real difference is they are a tad wider (maybe an inch or two), and a couple of inches longer. They mostly have that same rectangular shape and equal nose and tail).

6. And he's only gotten better since then
Most of the skating I do these days is freestyle for the simple fact taht the town I'm in right now has no park or any decent street terrain to skate.

I've been a big Mullen fan since the first time I saw his section in Plan B's "Second Hand Smoke" video. It just gave me one of those moments where I was like "this is why I love skateboarding". It also sparked my love for the song "Dream On" by Aerosmith.

7. Hehehe, my knees and ankles will no longer handle skating
:).

I was a fan of Mullens beginning with the first Bones Brigade Video Show :) When was that one made? 1984 if I remember correctly :).

8. Haha, I wasn't even born then

I'm still in prime skating condition, aside from the fact that I'm pretty out of shape so I get winded easily. Found that out the hard way last night, haha. My first time actually skating (ie. not using my skateboard as just transportation) in like a year.

2. Amazing to watch, that's for sure.
Not one person in ten thousand is capable of that degree of coordination. Wow.
