no more like the amateur style, both olympic and collegiate, I also know a little jiu-jitsu, sambo and judo. Mainly just picked it up though, never competed in those. My little brother is a no holds barred fighter though. He literally gets in a ring and fistfights people. He's crazier than me, haha.

Yikes. People die that way, ya know. (Yeah, people die riding bulls, too, but I bet more people die each year in fistfights than in the rodeo ring.) Just sayin'.

he's fought in what is called hook n' shoot, too. He hasn't fought in a few years, because he was shot when he stopped some guys from stealing my parent's pickup. So he's been on the mend for a while. But, he should be ready to fight again her pretty soon. He's only 20, almost 21, so he should be at it for quite a long time, I would think.

Well, in the organized fighting it's not too bad, you can get banged up, of course, but a ref will stop it before it gets too bad. Getting knocked out isn't nearly as bad, as say, taking a few hundred blows to the head over 10 rounds like boxers do. Well, if you ever had a concussion getting knocked cold is similar. So fighting isn't usually all that dangerous in a controlled environment. Now, streetfighting on the other hand can get nasty.

Very few die from riding bulls nowadays. It happens, but now they wear vests that protect them pretty well. I got stepped on in the chest one time and it nearly gave me a heart attack. Bruised my heart and lung. I was ok, just spent a night in the hospital and was sore for a week, but if I had a vest on I would have been fine. I was lucky though, people have been killed getting stepped on like I did. It was fun, but I had too many injuries and was a more serious wrestler etc, so I retired.

where I got hooked by a bull while photographing at a county fair event. I had stupidly turned my back on the action to reload my 35mm and when I turned back, a horn was scraping down my left elbow region. Scared the crap out of me, and damn that county extension agent who suggested that I'd get a lot better photos if I got in the ring. :eyes: Actually, it was the wind of that huge beast rushing past so near me that frightened me the most. I almost vomited on the spot. After my tetanus shot, I vowed I'd never be within hooking distance of a bull ever-ever-ever again. :cry:

Yes, they are scary. You don't realize how strong they are until they are that close either. He shouldn't have told you to get in the ring. Not if you aren't experienced being around that stuff all the time. It's an easy mistake to turn your back like that. You tend to forget just what you're dealing with in the moment. They'll be on you in a second. I once was steamrolled by one. Hard too. He bucked me off and as soon as I hit the ground I knew he was going to get me. I got up and started to run and after a several steps he just pancaked me! I was lucky because as mean as he was he didn't want any more. He just bowled right over me and kept going. Just like a truck running over something haha. It didn't really hurt either. Getting hooked isn't bad, especially if their horns aren't big. I've been hooked lots of times. Once in the back of the head, I still have the scar. The worst is if you get stepped on or kicked. That does a lot of damage. For example, I got my knee stepped on and it just blew everything out. All my ligaments. I had to get my knee totally reconstructed eventually.

that's ever happened to me, in terms of physical danger. I can't even _watch_ stuff like that, and I'm far from a wuss.

something that big and strong coming at you, it's frightening. Speaking as someone who has ridden them, their brute strength is unbelievable. When you're on the ground inches away from one, I know exactly what you mean. No harm in being frightened of that. That just means you're smart. If a person is too crazy or dumb not to fear or respect an animal like that then likely they'll get hurt very badly at some point.

But Frank is someone, so I stand by this post.

I was up all night, hungover, then had to go to our first meeting and as we're about to leave the photo guys are, "yeah we'll just take your pics for the paper now." Otherwise I would have had the hair all pimped out and all, wore my regular cooler glasses, which I couldn't find that morning etc. Everybody else got there picture retaken we were such a sorry caught off guard lot that day. I was just, "well, it turned out better than I thought, I'll keep it." :)
