Poll question: Six Feet Under Poll: Nate is..(Spoilers if you haven't seen it last week)
Last week Nate slept with Maddie while his pregnant wife attended Quaker service thinking that Nate & Maddie were going to be there. After sex, Nate was leaving but then his arm went numb and he dropped to the group. Fade to white and the show ended.

This week what will be Nate's status?

2. Here are my predictions. Nate will have gotten Maggie pregnant.
Nate will regain consciousness in the hospital, long enough to have one last exchange with Bren, and then he will die, either tonight or next week.

Maggie will be pregnant. Here's more about what I've noticed about Maggie. George called Maggie "Magpie" earlier this season. Look up the symbolism of a Magpie (this season has been RIFE with bird symbols!). Magpies are in the crow family. The crow symbolizes death. Also, Maggie came from Phoenix, AZ. Remember the "rising from the ashes" symbology of the Phoenix. I am thinking that we will find that Maggie is more dark and evil than any of us have considered. Is there a symbolic/allegorical connection to Lisa?

I think Maggie'll be pregnant, but I don't know what's going to happen to Brenda's pregnancy. Brenda--will she want to raise a disabled baby? She's been adamant that she doesn't want an abortion. Without Nate in the picture any longer, what will she do?

I think Brenda and Maggie will come to blows--verbal, not physical, before the end of the season. I am really eager to see how that whole triangle will work out.

I don't think Nate will make it this time. Remember early in the show last week when he said that when he dies he just wants to be wrapped in a shroud and burried in the ground? But David reminded him that his pre-need arrangement specified cremation? I got the feeling then, even before he keeled over, that Nate was on the verge of death...whether at Billy's hands or through AVM. Looks like the AVM got him.

I say he regains consciousness, has words with Brenda, then dies. And then, I plan on soaking a box of Kleenex with tears. I have loved Nate's character, until this season, when he became utterly viscious to Brenda. :(

3. I'm thinking he's in PVS and the family fights over what to do
and it'll be Brenda that insists they keep him alive while the family wants to pull the plug. The show has definately anti-bush themes in it and I can see them addressing the PVS (persistive vegitative state) in the show. It'll be a good way to end the season and wrap everything up. Nate never wanted to be his father but in the end he was just like him even dying at a young age!

5. I don't know...Bren seems like the educated type who would want...
to pull the plug. I can see Claire losing her mind that the plug would be pulled...she's the most irrational person on the show, besides her mom.

I'm betting that Brenda pulls the plug and the family accuses her of doing so because of being angry at Nate for sleeping with Maggie.

Remember the confrontation between Nate and Lisa's family, about whether the spouse or the parents should make the decision.

ONe thing's for sure. Writing this season has been pretty fuckin' awesome.

:hi:

11. OMG. I knew it.
He's gone. I hope Brenda keeps Mayah. I hope Maggie rots. I never liked her, and I feel there is more to her that we don't know yet.

Brenda was right. Nate has been completely narcissistic this past season.

But I'm going to miss him.

14. Well, you certainly...
...seem to have given Brenda a pass for screwing everything in Southern California when she was with Nate a couple of years back.

Anyone who would get back into a relationship with a freak like her would deserve whatever misery visted them as a result.

6. I am suddenly SO CONFLICTED about my thoughts on Nate.
I think he's dead and gone, but will haunt the characters for the rest of the season--sort of. I'm of the opinion that the "ghosts" featured on the series were 98% just the projections of the living characters thoughts and feelings. Maybe he'll cruise around, thinking he was going to get to interact with them, but won't be able to connect with a single one.

As for my feelings about Nate and his death--I grew to truly despise this character: his irresponsibility, assholishness, immaturity, stupidity and generally inconsiderate behavior. Now that he's dead? Well, I realized that his affair with Maggie, which led him to realize he didn't fit with Brenda, he'd been mistaking drama for passion, um...at first I hated that. Now? I think he got to do one last honest thing before he died, something that reflected self-awareness and a form of genuine self-respect. Good for Nate...I guess. Also, telling Brenda about it? Well, at least he had the common decency to come clean about it.

8. I've been of the opinion since last week
that Nate died and will be the focus of each characters lives for the rest of the season. Each will have frequent conversations with Nate which will help them decide the path they will take in the rest of their lives.

But....

The Nate as Terri Schiavo is a possibility I never thought of. As much criticism as that situation needs I think that is where the show could "jump the shark," depending on how heavy handed the situation is portrayed.

Either way I can't remember the last time I've been this nervous/excited for an episode of a television show. The season two cliffhanger was also a case of life or death but this seems much more immediate and possibly troublesome. Who will get Maya is a major question that could arise. Is this how Lisa's sister reenters this situation????

TEN MORE MINUTES!!!

15. Sorry everyone.
I kinda...saw the episode for this week before it aired (can't say how). I inadvertently put spoilers for this week up a couple of hours before the ep premiered because my brain got confused.

Hope no one saw them and hates me now.

17. i adore 6fu
Edited on Mon Aug-01-05 12:38 PM by faithnotgreed
my heart broke for brenda - and for nate
i dont like it ending for them like that but 6fu has consistent scenes of a real and messy life

this season has been fantastic

but i dont want to see ted with claire
yes i understand why he is there but if it were me no way could i have romantic feelings for him any longer
he was too republican lockstep

and i understand that they show his "goodness" because people are often complex and most people are good but he was parroting too much

(maybe that will be part of the storyline
he was repeating the talking points and then claire will impact him so that he will start thinking when he hears the news and not just repeat it all

i loved her bringing up abu ghraib

on edit: wheres george - his only scene was getting blown away by ruth
