John Wayne, the man who defined the term 'chicken hawk'.
Is this commercial on nationwide (Air America)? It's ... "defined the term 'star'", of course, but I think I'm closer to the truth.

Hmm, "defined the term 'bad actor'"?

What is the deal with Air America's commercials? Walmart, Merck..., have you heard the one that caters to wealthy real estate buyers?

1. John Wayne took Iwo Jima, Viet Nam, and died at the Alamo!
He was a great American hero!

3. The Searchers is pretty good. Otherwise his stuff is crappy
and Laughable, "Green Berets" and when he plays Ghengis Kahn.

He made an album too.
He talks his way through songs about why he loves America.
It's pretty funny. A real Crowd pleaser.

4. I like "Liberty Valence"
I've never seen "The Searchers," even though it's supposed to be a classic. Have to fill this hole in my knowledge of popular culture one of these days.

John Wayne was iconic. And something of a dick head. I try to keep the two separate unless the person is just too obnoxious.

Like Mel Gibson.

And yet you still keep an open mind? Not I.

11. Maybe it's because he's dead.
If he were still around, I might like him less. I have the same feelings about Frank Sinatra -- love his music, but I don't think I wouldn't have liked him personally.

9. You should watch The Searchers. I hated John Wayne until I saw it.
It's directed by John Ford, and John Wayne is downright vicious and mean in it. He's a despicable character. It's terribly racist against Indians, but I think that's part of the point Ford is making. So watch it with that idea. It's an outstanding film and Wayne really does a great job. You'll never think of him the same way again.

8. i don't understand it either
obviously, AAR is part of the stroking of america, buying bushinc time while they consolidate control of the levers of power.....
i hate to say it, but the only effective ally progressives have is bushinc (they are truly destroying any illusions of moral superiority or basic virtue; the kids will eventually kill em all lol)
fukk AAR, listen to it but when they start yelling 'seig heil blonde jesus bush! just shrug them shoulders and shake that noggin...

12. Well if you dislike John Wayne so much....
and think he is such a bad actor, why not become an actor yourself and become known to millions of people, since if such a "bad-acting" chickenhawk could do it, you should be able to as well. :eyes:

Sorry if I am a little short, but John Wayne was beloved in my household growing up. I've seen almost every movie of he made. Yes "The Conqueror" (the one where he played Genghis Khan) sucked.

I recommend his comedies over most his serious war stuff.

The Quiet Man, Hatari, McClintock, Donovan's Reef; all pretty funny. The Hellfighers is anoter good movie, though it is more serious.

It also doesn't mean I agreed with his politics. I just liked his movies.

As far as AA playing these "bad commercials" ---- in case you haven't noticed, Air America has nothing to do wih Democracy, Liberalism or Freedom/Truth. It has everything to do with economics. Dems and Libs don't listen to Right Wing radio and even boycott the products; therefore there is a vacuum in the market; solution? Air America.

13. When I first heard the word "Chicken-hawk" it was a non-political word.
And reading your sentence with the old meaning sure gave me a grin
