Do you shop at Wal-Mart and Sams Club?

I do on occasion as I am not richest person in the world and nor I afford to spend more on my principles when I am trying to watch every buck the Repukes wanna steal.

with the way they treat their employees, they should consider themselves lucky that I even sit through one of their commercials. Besides, my mom and dad go to Sams Club, and if there's anything I need, I tell them to pick it up for me. :)

And not just because of their politics. They sell a lot of crappy stuff.

Also, Wal-Mart's "low prices" may be a myth. A local tv station did a shopping comparison between Wal-Mart and Target. Wal-Mart was only $1.14 cheaper on a whole shopping cart of similar merchandise.

We prefer Target anyway.

K-Mart has nothing anymore since their financial troubles.

I buy my stuff from Target all the time because their clothing is of a much higher quality than Wally world's, and for almost the same price.

I usually get my summer clothes every year from there.

As well as their treatment of employees (for a retail store). I do occasionally hit kmart cause its across the street from me but nix on sams and nix on walmart have never been in their stores and never will unless the opportunity for some looting occurs. (the Iraq shuffle-put your left foot forward and grab grab grab spin on your right ....)

I've been doing a permanent boycott for about 3 years now. It's K-Mart for me since they aren't all that evil and I once worked for them. Got locked in the store one night with a guy who couldn't speak English. Fond memories...

It's the same thing.

I have to get all the cheap stuff. I usually go to Target. That's where I buy all my casual stuff.

....and Target treats their employees MUCH better. The only thing I buy at Wal-mart is pens. I write constantly, and I'm very picky about my pens. Wal-mart is the only place in town that sells the kind I like. Everything else I buy at Target.

I actually kinda like Target.

and so is the design. I've been to the local WallyWorld's just to check it out and couldn't leave fast enough. I couldn't stand it.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure the bidness practices are all that different betwixt the 2, anymore. Still, I hang onto Target, 'cause they're owned by Dayton-Hudson, and Mark Dayton is a good ol' boy librul in the tradition of Wellstone . . .

You're the first person I've heard mention it other than me. When I've mentioned that I don't like Walmart because of the lighting, people look at me like I'm crzy.

Unfair labour practices here and abroad. Horrid business practices like the wrecking of local economies. Exploitation of the workers, as well as the American shopper. I loath Walmart and everything it stands for. That's why I won't shop there.

Gee, and to think that I have two Wal-marts and a Sam's club within eight miles of my house. In fact, I don't shop in any warehouse type store (stiff neck claustrophobic thing). Crazy me, but seek independently owned stores that try to be loyal and fair to the community, and don't need expensive commercials to boost their public relations.

Walmart has long been notorious for its abuse of its employees. I have not shopped there in years.

After finding out all the local pharmacies are out of business because of "competition" from Wal Mart...

I go to Wal Mart, which says they refuse to stock the morning after pill for moral reasons.

Guess I'll get on a bus to the nearest big city to get an abortion, If I can afford it.

I don't like their business practices.

My Aunt lives in a small town in Southeastern Kentucky of mabye 1500 permanent residents. Wal-Mart opened up a store, drove the other merchants into the ground and then relocated the store 30 miles away leaving an economic black hole.

The only businesses left there are gas stations and restaurants now.

And Target is 6 miles. So we give the money to big oil rather than foreign crap merchandizers.... :eyes: :grr: :shrug:

But the Target prices are equivalent, the lighting (which here is flickery scary movie bright... I get paranoid under it since I worked there as a teen) is far kinder on my eyes and I don't feel like I'm supporting the radical right.

Else we do Mervyn's which is part of the Target, Nordstrom's Marshall Fields family.

We would by from local small businesses, if we can find them. Not easy any more.

Lived in a small town where WM was it for nearly 75 miles as a teen (before WM came in, everything was 75 miles away.... so for once they weren't the big bad monopolists.) and I have to say I miss the fabric section.... that $1 a yard table was something else.

I have a membership in and I shop there once or twice a year. Walmart, never, thankfully there isn't one within a hundred miles of me.:-)

but sometimes I don't have any choice. The Wal-Market here has run most of our local mom & pop stores out of business. I shop the few remaining mom & pop stores whenever possible, even if it means paying more, but for some items I just don't have any option except to join the Wal-Martians. It sucks but sometimes it's unavoidable.

we have two Sam's and two Wal-marts within 30minutes of us and one Target. We shop at each. Unfortunately with a family of five and low teacher pay we have to make it stretch as far as possible and that means Sam's and Walmart for us....Costco is also in the area, but is more expensive than Sam's I think....tough to deal with where the small independent shops have been run out of town.

But I rarely shop there because it is so packed all the time. And I don't like parking out in never never land, because the parking lot is usually jammed. I go to Target most of the time, which is only about a mile away.

And it's a pain since there's not much else around for like 80 miles. But I absolutely refuse to even set foot inside their door!

Wal-Mart is cheap, and I am broke.

I get my meds from Wal-Mart, too, since they only cost about 2/3rds of what they cost at the other pharmacies I've used.

BUT ...

If you want to vex Wal-Mart, you should discreetly bring in a bunch of anti-Wal-Mart propaganda in the form of business cards, 3x5 cards, or quarter-leaf handbills (a quarter of a page, i.e., 4.25" x 5.5"). Put them around behind the merchandise. You can reach every employee that way before the managers catch on. And even if they do, so what?

What can they do? Ask you to leave?

Besides, most of the Wal-Mart workers I know are pro-union, Democratic, and have no love for the place. Even most of the managers! So the propaganda won't go to waste.

So why does Wal-Mart?

I can't stand their business practices, plus over the years I have done a lot of comparison shopping (I am a retail buyer) and overall they are no cheaper than Target or a lot of other stores. They give away some high-profile items and make it up on others. The company I buy for is an 8-store chain of farm stores and we are cheaper on a lot of products than Walmart.

I prefer to shop at thrift stores. I have other choices for discount store shopping i.e. Target, K-Mart, Old Navy, Sears, and Value City. I belong to Costco which has better quality merchandise than Sams Club. I have been in Sams Club only once and was not impressed due to the quality of their merchandise.

If Walmart is packed, my drive way is a closer parking spot than a spot in the lot. It is very convient. I have my perscriptions there and usually pick up over the counter drugs and toiletries there. Sometimes, I'll pick up snacks there if I am going there anyway to pick up my drugs.
Sometimes, we drive to Sam's Club, but not as often since we live a ways away now. We bought our furniture there when we first married. They had a nice leather couch and love seat there at the time for about half the price of the furniture stores that we looked at first.
I have a couple of tee shirts from Walmart, but in general, I do not buy clothes there. After shopping at mid range department stores that actually have quality clothing, I really think that their clothing is a rip off. You can get quality clothing at those prices if you buy when things are on sale at better stores.
In general, Walmart has everything except quality merchandise.

My wife and I are Costco shoppers. Much more comfortable shopping experience than Sam's or Wal-Mart. Prices are good and they feed you enough free samples to make a whole meal!!

I can't fault people who do shop there when they need to, but I never will.

We did at one time, because our daughter started her marketing career as a WM assistant manager. But, she, being a bit outspoken, and young, stood up for some underlings, recieved a bad report, and got the proverbial bad mark on her file.
She was transfered 3 times in 18 months, to 3 different stores, and finally told them to "shove it" when told of a 4th proposed transfer.
She is doing much better now, and out of retail. "Wal-Mart SUCKETH"
