Believe it or not, this is a road:
... and that's me last weekend:

... It's called Imogene Pass. It's probably the most popular four-wheel-drive road in Colorado, topping out at 13,114 feet, with a 4,350-foot elevation gain.

The road dipped through streams that nearly engulfed me, and across these streches of rock that conspired to turn me into quite a confident rider by the end of the day.

Every other pull-off has remnants of an old mine, and every one has a view to die for. :)

Obligatory baby picture:

This thing goes everywhere there's a road of any kind. Note the helmet ... on which I was upsold. :D

Point of all this: It's amazing to me to have something that's completely new, that I adore doing, at my age. ;)

2. Beautiful!
I've never been off-road on/in a vehicle, really. Just on my own two feet... I'm glad you've found something that's so much fun for you! :bounce:

3. Took a few hikes that weekend, too...
The beauty is in how quickly one gets to the trailhead with such suspension! :bounce:

The other key is to have a friend in a Jeep, acting as support (read: beer/BBQ/tents/etc.) vehicle.

4. One of my very favorite parts of the world!
I have never done that pass, I am terrified of heights and had a very unfortunate experience on the same range doing Ophir Pass. Did you try Black Bear Pass? We used to spend every vacation in Telluride until it just got to be so Hollywood and WAY too expensive. We went back 3 years ago, loved it but is sure was different.

Great pictures. I adore that area, knew it pretty well at one time.

5. If it stops raining, Black Bear is on for Sunday
... I'm about ten minutes from Ouray, so it's all laid out before me. :)

My riding partner (gf) rolled off Yankee Boy with her brother several years ago. Broken collar bone kept her out of the Raid Gauloises, if you can believe I date such a creature. ;)

6. Good luck
and have fun on Black Bear. That is supposed to be the most difficult pass so be careful. I truly wish I was not so frightened by heights because it is so very beatiful up there. You should come out close to Town Park, a lovely spot with lots of stuff going on usually. AND this weekend is the Telluride Jazz Celebration so the joint should be cooking! I am so jealous. Have a wonderful time but please be careful.

7. "Arrive alive at 5" is my motto
Plus these roads are less frightening on two wheels than four. I try to stay away from the Jazz Fest crowds, mostly. :hi:
