I think I need a new desktop computer
*drat* !

I think my oldie desktop is on its last legs or maybe it is just plain out of date. Has an AMD processor and is a PII with 64 RAM and Windows 98 1st ed. on it. Basically the computer is what it is and its not really a candidate to be "upgraded". I have the original installation programs and that is how I've managed to keep it going.

I've reformatted it again and again. It keeps crashing on me constantly. I only use it for listening to the radio these days being I can only run IE 5 on it.

I don't want to spend a lot as I am on a dial-up connection. I am upset being I really like the little scanner that I bought years ago that works very well still.

Any ideas?

This computer is an IBM Aptiva that I bought on eBay for $600 (new) in 1999. It has its problems no doubt (hence all of the c: /u reformats) but I hate letting her go.

Any ideas on what I might get to replace her? Better yet, any ideas on how I might be able to keep her going awhile longer? I like my old PC and the 10 year old 17" Nokia monitor still works perfectly.

3. hey thanks!
:hi: and thank you!

This is exactly what I need! I'm pretty sure my monitor will still work and hopefully I can get my HP DeskJet to work on it (I hope!). As for the scanner - it is a card that installs inside of the computer. I wonder if this would be possible with this particular model? I see it is an AMD processor. I've learned to love these!

Thank you so much! I CAN afford $200! :D

5. I just bought a new desktop computer
It would of cost my about 400 to upgrade the computer like I wanted. I decided to go for the Mac mini. I rarely get pop ups anywhere and spyware is jut not written for macs. There is so much I can do with it so very easily. If you like to download music or play with your digital pictures then I would suggest getting a mac mini. It works off a USB port connection so your mouse your monitor and your keyboard will be compatible with it. It is not bad for a price of 499. Plus it takes up like no space on my desk. The only thing that I am not able to do on it is burn DVD's.

6. You could actually replace the hard drive and put in more
RAM. It would cost you about $200. A PII isn't really that bad.

8. other aspects of it are starting to fail also
like the CD-ROM ... and the floppy at times *ack*

I'll admit I definitely got my money's worth out of her. But I hate to let her go (I guess I've grown attached to her).

I guess that the new IBM desktops (made in China now :puke: ) aren't worth a damn. I used to really like IBM computers, but not Made in China ones.

BUY AMERICAN! (well if possible that is!
