HELP! Dog Problem!
Ok, I awoke to a horrifying noise this AM, which was apparently the sound of my 2 dogs having, um, intimate relations. The thing is, the male dog, Buddy, is fixed! The female, Stripe, is not, and apparently in heat. So, is there any possibility of her getting pregnant? My biology knowledge tells me no, but my mom's freaking out! Also, they've never done this before in 2 years of cohabitating, so should I be concerned?

Any advice appreciated! :hi:

1. No
but just because a male dog has been fixed doesn't mean he can't-er-engage in pleasure. We had a fixed male, Bucky, who loved to mate with any female dog in heat he could find. Didn't seem to bother him that no pups were the result.

2. Apparantly?
If she's in heat, there may be a triangle here. I would keep an eye out for another dog in the neighborhood.

6. Apparently as in
I thought they were just tangled up outside, and Stripe was whining, but when I got up, my mom said "Your dog just raped my dog!" My mom's a bit of a prude, and she was totally shocked. They were definitely caught in the act though.

3. People who are "fixed" have sex, why shouldn't dogs?

If the male is "fixed," regardless of species, the likelihood of his impregnating a female is statistically nil.

Try to give them some privacy. Lend them some Barry White.

Soft lights, little gravy on the kibble, a couple chewies... could be a
nice romantic night by the fire!

5. Oh but the noise!
I'll have to lock them in a soundproof room! :P

4. LOL! I have the same 'issue' since I have a fixed male and two females
Edited on Sat Nov-08-03 10:05 AM by radwriter0555
one fixed, one not. The "intact' one is a maltese, and I catch Joe humping her on occasion.

It's just a little puppy love is all. Winky, the maltese, seems to like it.

Joe's lil 'nads are GONERS, so it is safe sex, indeed.

Ahem.

8. Spay the female anyway
*Your* fixed male cannot possibly impregnate her.

*Other* males, however, can. You may think Stripe is never likely to encounter another horny male dog, but in fact it's very possible.

Please spay her, it's the responsible thing to do.

9. No. Buddy doesn't have the balls to do so (literally)
But it is surpising that he would heed the call (or smell) of nature.

11. First tell your Mom your dog didn't "rape" her dog...
so no reason to put your dog on the sex offenders list... And no... if your dog is fixed there's no way she can get pregnant, but agreeing with the other posts here, your Mom should get her dog fixed ASAP. Sex is something that is ingrained in animals. My Pit-mix has a tendency to hump my best friends dog who is a Setter-mix who deosn't seem to mind it one bit. Both are females. So there ya go...

12. It's not unusual
My next-door neighbor's dog was fixed and always trying to hump my female Rottie.

14. It happens
Those female hormones get the boys goin'. Even if the dog has been fixed, depending on when that happened they may still exhibit learned behaviors of a sexual nature. Now why the equipment still works, that's a puzzle but its possible. One of our dogs we thought was fixed but in fact his testes were intact but undescended (i.e. not in the sac). We took care of that but he still loves to hump.

Were the two actually tied?
