Tiny Tim
http://www.tinytim.org/

Anyone remember this chap? I saw him perform on an early episode of Laugh-In, made appearances in several later episodes, and even get spoofed in a skit on the same show which was quite funny...

Didn't know he died though. :-( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0864097/ Good grief, he died in Minneapolis...

2. Tiny Tim and Miss Vicky
What a tv wedding that made. I thought his high pitched "singing" was quite original until I discovered in my 78's the very same kind of voice, pitch etc had been done fifty years before.

4. aka Herbert Khaury
Yes, and apparently quite a talented songwriter and performer beyond his 'freakish' appeal...

RIP

5. he recorded a song called "Just What Exactly Do You...
...Mean by 'Antichrist'" just before he died, with members of Current 93 and Nurse with Wound. Download it off Kazaa and give it a listen--it's the most insane 10 minutes of music you'll ever hear.

6. I ran into him at a market in St. Louis Park, Minn. a few years back
Did a severe double-take. Same long black curly hair. He looked pretty good.

7. I seem to recall that he died in early 1997

I only remember at all because NPR's "All Things Considered" did a story on Tiny Tim right after he passed away.

8. "Girl" came out in 1996--backed by Brave Combo
The album was recorded over a long period & released toward the end of his life. It's still available on Rounder* & you can hear clips here:

www.rounder.com/index.php?id=album.php&catalog_id=3401

Brave Combo from Denton, Texas is known for their "Nuclear Polka" but are versatile & accomplished in many musical styles. They're truly excellent live--catch them if they come through your town.

Texas promoter & character Bucks Burnett fostered the partnership of Tim & the Combo. Here's his account:

* I checked out the rest of the Rounder site. Lots of good stuff, but I don't know if I'm ready for the upcoming Leon Redbone Christmas album....

9. I have three of his albums
"God Bless Tiny Tim"

"Tiny Tim's Christmas Album"

"Tiny Tim: Songs of an Impotent Troubadour"

"God Bless Tiny Tim", from I believe 1969, is a weird album; it mixes old songs from the 1920s with Tiny's version of "I Got You Babe" (he sings both parts, Sonny and Cher) and a psychedelic number called "Strawberry Tea". The songs are interspersed with jokes, spoken commentary, and some weird "la la land" stuff.
