I LOVE your sigline! Paul Wellstone is, literally, the reason I'm a DFLer. I actually had a personal relationship with him, back when he was just a PoliSci prof at a southern MN liberal arts college.

I first met Paul as a college freshman in 1987-88, when he helped Don Ostrom (St. Peter) kick Alan Quist's sorry right-wing butt to the curb in 1988. Paul came over to St. Peter from Northfield, several times, to stir up the grassroots. We won that election by < 200 votes, IIRC-- in a VERY conservative SW MN district, too!

Needless to say, I busted my ass for Paul in 1990 when he first ran for Senate. I was on board during the caucuses, and was a delegate to that state convention. I was on the floor for ALL seven nominating ballots, and Paul's acceptance speech is one of the highlights of my political life.

I cried the day Paul died. I had to leave work early, I was so torn up. He had accomplished so much, but still had so much to do...

I was amazed at how much enthusiasm could come out of such a small in stature man!

Wellstone is the reason I remain a liberal.

People like Paul come along once during a person's lifetime, and I'm proud and honored that he was around during mine. He was a true American patriot.

My mom used to live near Carleton, where Wellstone worked before he got into politcs. But your quote is very nice.
