MTV to air "Hour of Hate"

with your host, Louis Farrakhan. You know, I used to think MTV was about music videos and whatnot. When did it become a clearing house for these hateful people to get out their violent message?

I used to go over to a friends house and watch this amazing new station called "Music Television". They had low-key VJs who announced videos and then actually showed them. They had a few interviews with musicians as well. It was great.

I wonder what happened to that station?

I have to aggree with another comment on this thread that MTV was once a cool media. Does MTV2 rock? My nephew plays a mean Les Paul, ala Jimmy Page and his protest against MTV is that they do not promote Rock & Roll.

Dance/R&B/pop/awful mainstream hip hop gets about 16 hours during the day, Rock gets about 4 hours after prime time, Edgier Rock and Hip Hop get 4 hours during the overnight time slot. MTV sucks either way.

Unless you get some kind of different programming than I do. Yes, during the day is all either pop/alternative or Dance/R&B, however in prime time it moves to more strictly what you might hear on your local "Nu rock" station - so you know, pretty give and take. But after that, in the evenings and late evenings (which is when I watch anyway) it is non-mainstream metal of all kinds. Headbangers ball lives on at MTV2.

I don't mean "metal" like "linkin park" which is not metal. I mean I've seen Nile on MTV2 ok - Nile. I've seen Meshuggah, Arch Enemy, In Flames , Lame of God, Opeth, Soilwork, etc. etc.

So this is the reason MTV2 is good for me.

I heard one of his sermons this AM and it was enough to make me really wonder what kind of hate-filled people we have here in the US. And now that Ja Rule is one of his disciples, well, this is exposure I would rather the Nationa of Islam would not get.

I guess that's better than being a Jehovah's witness, IMHO.

And I really don't see much more hate coming from Farrakhan that I do, say, George W. Bush talking about exterminating muslims.

Being a Jew (and thus the origin of all that's wrong with the world, according to Minister Farrakhan), I am seriously appalled.

However, they have ruined their rep in other ways, too.

Anyone remember how they spent hours of having Eminem spew his venom about gay people on their various shows ? Well, apparently that led to what I imagine they think was their redemption in their version (2 other better ones were done...so far) of the tragedy of Matthew Shepherd.
