Edit: I'm going to join the Smoking Cessation Group.
Edited on Mon Aug-22-05 08:46 PM by Maddy McCall
I have set my date for my birthday in October. I'm going to quit, but I think it would be great if we could have a group dedicated to nothing but the discussion of quitting smoking.

It would be a place where former smokers could help present smokers who want to quit by providing them advice and encouragement. People who have just quit smoking could go there for encouragement when they feel the temptation to light up. We could help each other quit, and as we quit, we could help new people who want to quit.

I understand that some of this is ongoing in the KOEB group. That's fantastic, but the Quit Smoking group would be only for the discussion of quitting smoking, so that you wouldn't have to search for posts on the topic. I certainly don't want to steal the KOEB group's efforts to encourage people to quit smoking, though.

What do y'all think? The group would be for encouragement for people who are quitting, not for nonsmokers to complain about smokers. Nonsmokers would be welcome, as long as they are there to help people who want to quit.

If you would be interested in joining this group, please post below. We need ten DUers with stars to take the suggestion to Skinner.

EDIT: JUST FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS ALREADY A SMOKING CESSATION GROUP. HEADED THERE NOW.

2. I recently quit for two weeks and started again.
Alot of stress right now but I'd love some support. I hate smoking and wish I could quit (been smoking since I was 15).

7. Yes you will.
I'll bookmark it right now.
Maybe it's the previous lifestyle that got me smoking in the first place. I'm no longer apart of that life so the last remnant needs to go by the roadside too.

3. As an ex smoker
I would peek in there now and then and offer encouragement. Lord knows it took me forever to actually quit and something like this would have been very helpful.

Good for you. I loved smoking, did not want to quit but it really has made me feel better.

:hi: Maddy

6. Please visit the Smoking Cessation group that's already in existence.
I'll be posting there. I'll be looking for advice for gearing myself up to quit in October.

8. Gearing up is very important.
So is being prepared. Read what you can, find a nicotine substitute, take deep breaths and drink lots of water. Just be sure you have something about smoking that makes you mad, like the rich guys that enslave you and you will be set!

You can do it. Hell if I could quit I am convinced anyone can.

9. Maddy - I wish you all the best in this.
When times get tough for you and you can't do it for yourself, look at your son and know that what you are doing will keep you from being deprived of precious time with him.

:loveya: - you can do this!

14. I said I would check it out and give it some serious thought!
I make no promises - been smoking more than 1/2 my life, hell been smoking 2/3's of my life - I don't know if I am that tough. Things have been rather stressful in my life - don't know when it will get better.

No promises :freak:

 :loveya:

you're one ahead of the game anyway.
