Fats Domino is missing.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,168122,00.html

Oh God. I hope he's okay.....I know the death of some minor rock luminary is trivial compared to the deaths of thousands that we're seeing, but I'll be heartbroken is Fats is dead.

6. Yes, according to article. And he told a friend he'd stay
home and 'ride it out'. :-(

4. Tragic - emphasizing all the greatness of NO
is one way to stress that this national treasure should never have been lost.

9. When I lived in NO.....
It was staggering to think of all the musical and artistic talent that was just boiling down there....I used to go to Jackson Square and listen to horn players and guitar players and singers who should have been selling out stadiums sit on the bricks and toil away for chump change.

I fear that many of those same people have been wiped out. this really really really sucks....

On edit - my mom sat next to him in Vegas once, back in the '70s. It was a huge thrill for her. I grew up listening to his records.

11. With a nickname like "Fats..."
You'd think he would be one of the last of the original wave of RnRers to survive, but yeah....he's still playing concerts, or was....

12. Until reading this post, I had no idea he was still alive.
A moment of happiness, that he was alive, followed by sadness, pondering his possible fate.

No one should have to go out this way, let alone an American legend like Fats.

Another celebrity to cross off the list of people I thought were dead (I hope).

10. So sad. It's quite eye-opening when you realize that nature.....
...is indiscriminate. His celebrity status is all but stripped clean. He's just another one of the thousands of missing people.

It's heart wrenching.

15. I wasn't trying to put down Fats.
I love Fats. I've seen him perform, I used to live in Nawlins, I know where his house is in the 9th Ward.

I've already been called on the use of the word "minor" in Fats' case. I used it because even though the guys is super-important to the history of ROCK music, most people under 25 (the ones who buy most of the records) hardly even LISTEN to rock anymore, and I bet a mjority of them wouldn't even know who Fats Domino is. It was not meant to denigrate Fats, but to put his fame into a broader context.

Anyways, I hope he's found soon, and if not, I hope he makes it back to Blueberry Hill.

16. I wasn't taking issue - sorry it came across like that
I admit I was only looking at him in my pantheonic context, and not the broader one out there. So that would make your assessment accurate. I didn't mean to sound like I was correcting you - but I can see how that looks now.

I think we both agree that in the ideal world, he would be major, and Pat Boone would have never existed.
