Mine was the first to hit LBN and I am astounded at the lack of comprehension from so many DUers as to the affect of this on our lives. I'm 47 and this to me is the scariest thing I have faced in my lifetime. Rehnquist used to be the epitome of evil. He was appointed in 1974, before Rush, the NeoCons or the rise of the Christian right. I disagreed with most of Rehnquist's decisions, but as a lawyer, I could understand where he was coming from. I heard from several sources that Rehnquist didn't resign because he disagreed with Bush and the Neocons on many issues. Itcan be much worse, especially for the wrongfully accused, the poor are screwed, so much for any personal privacy issues, abortion, birth control, gay rights. We have lost two true conservatives, getting two neo-cons is a disaster that will affect 250 million Americans for the next 30-40 years.

As a recent law school graduate and bar exam taker, I've read hundreds of Rehnquist opinions, and believe me, he was as bad as you believed him to be. But I really fear for this nation now more than I ever have before. I just told my husband we need to move to the UK or anywhere else but here, because this country is GONE. Giving that little shitface Bush the opportunity to replace Rehnquist with (most likely) Scalia and then name someone like Orrin Hatch or Kenneth Starr or Ted Olson or some other fascist just makes me ILL.

God help this nation.

And also watch the Democrats in Congress just roll over and say "Okay - appoint you want because we don't want to upset anyone."
