I mean, people might have realized their mistake and defected since...so I was wondering if we had any of those defectors.

Yep. :)

But I supported Bush in 88. No one in the second grade was smart enough to vote for Du-ka-ka. :P

Fortunately, I had been educated by that time. I don't think the other kids ever forgave me for being right.

8. I voted
for Dole in my 5th grade class election. I think my only rationalization was that I wanted someone new for the sake of being new. Thank goodness I couldn't really vote back then..probably not much better than some adults anyways though.

I'm a social liberal and an economic centrist. I also thought Gore was a sleaze (still do to some extent).

Its possibly the worst mistake of my life.

Edit: I voted for * in 2000, but not in '04.

20. Not me, but my husband.
He's sort of a DUer-by-proxy. He doesn't post here himself, but I keep him apprised of the important issues and exceptional posts.

He was raised by Republicans and voted Bush in 2000. I voted Gore.

It didn't take him long to see the error of his ways, and Bush's complete mishandling of virtually every issue since his "election" got him to change his tune quickly.

Being married to a bleeding heart liberal didn't hurt either. He always considered himself a moderate before, but he's become more liberal with every year we've been married.

In 2004, he voted Kerry.

22. I didn't vote because I didn't like either candidate.
It wasn't until the election was stolen that I started realizing just what a creepy criminal * was, and 9/11 clinched it for me.

I was a bit of a Betty Bowers type when I was a young mom--new Christian, Right-to-Life chapter chair, thought Clinton was the devil. Thank God/dess, I returned to my heathen upbringing and regained my common sense and political discernment!

27. I did
:hide:

I was barely 18, and was raised by fundies right wing wackos. My boyfriend (now husband) warned me I was making a huge mistake. I just shrugged him off; I didn't know ANY of the policies or where any candidate stood on any issues. All I knew was that he was the repuke candidate and that's all that mattered (thanks for nothing Dad). It took me a very short amount of time to realize the error of my ways, I saw the truth very VERY shortly after 9/11, I'd been disappointed with him even before so it didn't take long for me to become totally infuriated with him.
My parents refuse to discuss any political issue with me now, because I'm a traitor (why do I hate America???). They idolize the dumb-ass in chief which is really irritating because my mom can't give me a reason other than he's against abortions. :eyes:

In '04, I couldn't get to the polls fast enough to vote for the better man. I hate living in Kansas because my vote obviously didn't make a difference anyway, but at least I know better and can continue to fight from now on.

32. I didn't vote for B*. However, I swore that I'd never again vote for a...
Republican again after what happened during the 2000 election. I never voted for them anyway, but I always felt that I should be "open minded". However, after that debacle, I realized that by voting for even a person that I considered to be a rare "good" Republican, I was putting power into the hands of the most evil group of people that our country's ever seen. Their legacy will live on well beyond my life.

but beat me please because I voted for Regean in 80. I realized my huge mistake a few months later after I was educated by some completely brilliant and kind liberal professors. I would now gladly shoot myself before voting Republican.

I also still have not forgiven myself for voting for Mr. 666, himself, and will forever feel I need to pay penance. How could I have ever voted for him against the wonderfully compassionate and brilliant Jimmy Cater? I was unforgivably ignorant then.

Please forgive me, please.:hide:

43. No but I'm sorry to say
I couldn't see much difference at the time between Bush and Gore. Seeing that I had only been in the country for two years I couldn't vote anyway (and still can't for that matter). It was only after 9/11 that I became interested in US politics and began to realise that Bush and Cheney were very evil people.
