I haven't been on DU for a while.

I haven't been able to read or watch the news. I just couldn't take it. My birthplace has been turned into Atlantis, and I've felt horrible beyond description. After a week of not knowing where my mother was, she finally called me Friday to tell me she was safe at home, but things are pretty bad. Police in my 2700 resident rural hometown are carrying AK-47s and enforcing 7PM curfews because of refugee looters and carjackers. My uncle, who lived in uptown New Orleans, is now homeless. I've invited him to come stay with me in Minneapolis for a few weeks until he can get back on his feet. I've also suggested that my mother think about moving away for a while because of the lawlessness, the upcoming plagues of TB that will soon sweep the New Orleans area, and the coming economic recession. I feel horrible beyond description.

:hug: Glad to hear that your mom made it through OK, hope she stays safe. So sad about your uncle. :( Hopefully he will take you up on the offer to come stay with you.
