A total turn-arround: Celine Dion
I've hated her for her whole career. Absolute spitting, piss-on-her, hatred.

But I saw her tonight on Larry King and she expressed EXACTLY what I've been feeling all night.

EXACTLY.

She was angry, hurt, pissed, baffled. And she expressed it in the most heartfelt way I've seen all week.

So I will see her the next time I go to Vegas. I always thought she was a twunt, but now I have ultimate respect for her. She's as hurt as I am, and she wasn't afraid to express it.

I now love Celine Dion.

God bless her. And if you knew me, you'd know how impossible that statement is.

1. I wonder why folks aren't jumping up her butt
like they've jumped up Kanye West's butt for similarly critical remarks? Nobody has called her "arrogant" for her remarks, as the Washington Post called West "arrogant" after criticizing Bush. Will Pitt astutely guessed that the Post called West "arrogant" because calling him "uppity" would have gotten 'em in a mess of trouble.

This is no diss to Celine Dion. I respect her courage.

12. Because she's a pretty rich white girl...
Sure she's from Quebec, but we won't hold that against her.

2. I know Celine Dion made a sizeable donation, but did she say something....
....against the Chimp as well?

If so, more power to her. Her music still makes me gag, but at least she's a worthwhile human being. That being the case, I won't bash her recklessly anymore. (just change the station)

7. The very first celebrity donation
I read about was Dion's $1,000,00 gift.

And then when I saw her tonight and she was so absolutely heart-broken and sincerely hurt by what she'd seen.... well...

we bonded. I always thought she was an arrogant diva, but I was very mistaken. She had tears falling down her face as she asked "Where is the help?"

I now love Celine Dion. I may never like her music, but as a person... I was wrong about her. She's a fucking doll.

21. She was great. And she was basically waving Larry King off, saying,
in essence, 'fuck the money these people need water!' when he was trying to stroke her over her donation. That's not what she said but you get the idea.

28. Could you clarify the dollar amount?
is that 1,000.00 or 1,000,000 (I'm sure it's the latter)

18. She didn't speak specifically against the chimp. But she asked why it was
so easy to fly halfway around the world and kill people and destroy everything, in an instant, (her approximate words), and so hard to get water to people in New Orleans.

You may or may not read that as criticism of chimperial policy, as you wish...

11. Celine is from VERY humble beginnings
She might be wealthy now, but she knows about poverty. I'm sure that has made her especially empathetic toward all those people who were just stranded without help or hope.

She's also Canadian, which just gives you a different frame of reference on how society should function.

I only saw a part of her comments, and she was definitely hugely upset by the non-response in NOLA and area. I don't know if she criticized Bush or not. I've never heard a political word out of her mouth.

17. People shouldn't have to be from poverty, or black, to have empathy.
It's HUMAN BEINGS there.

but I do think it gives them an extra measure of understanding. I think poverty imprints you for life.

but I could always tell there was a real person underneath all that. I love hearing her sing "God Bless America".

14. I don't like her music but
I've heard that she is supposed to be a very sweet and "normal" person who doesn't like to say anything unkind about anyone. They say that she is really a humanitarian who is very upset about poverty in general (since she grew up very poor).

She's on the list w/ Ricky Martin-don't like their music but love their humanitarian efforts (Martin has numerous charities that he works w/ and also works to help rescue young girls from the sex trade).

26. I've no doubt she's nice as a person; but her music fucking rots
and always has fucking rotted, and always will fucking rot.

Politics have no effect whatsoever on whether I like an artist's work.

But, I'm glad she spoke on, and spoke out on the correct side!

YAY Celine!

Canadians always have been smarter than Americans.

31. I always thought she would be the next Streisand
Unfortunately shoe doesn't act, so that is not likely, but she was extraordinarily passionate...so much so that Larry (as usual) tried to shut her up.

She deserves a hero's applause for her comments.
