1. Several...
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 10:33 AM by VelmaD
I started on piano when I was so little I don't even remember. Played that quite seriously...went to college originally on a piano scholarship.

I was a percussionist in high school and college band. Played pretty much everything...including the kitchen sink (well, close to it...I've actually played trash can lid and anvil - seriously).

I also play clarinet and flute.

2. Other not listed... my Vocal Chords ;-)
Started in church (in 2nd grade I was the youngest ever accepted into the adult choir). As I grew up I went on to being accepted in a couple locally prestegious choirs in HS, I have also sung solo at weddings, in theatre productions, etc. Due to life circumstances the last few years however I've mostly just sung around family and friends for the joy of it but now that life has changed it's course again I may look into doing more public singing again. :)

I've taken guitar, viola and recorder but due to money and patience I never went beyond basic and since it was years ago I certainly wouldn't say I "play" those at all anymore. Someday it would be wonderful to go back and really learn the guitar or recorder, better yet I'd truly LOVE to learn to play the Celtic Harp. :)

3. I love your screen name, WePurrsevere!
I played the cello from 5th-10th grade. I'd love to pick it up again; I think with some practice I could bring back some semblance of the "glory days." At least I could play the "Jaws" theme!

51. Thank you :-)
I had a friend in HS that played the cello.. I like the low tones of it. :) My friend was about 5 foot tall and tiny build... she'd lug that thing all over without batting an eye and would occasionally arm wrestle and win against more then a few "boys". ;)

Jaws? That would have been around the same time I think. :D

Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 07:22 AM by WePurrsevere
I don't have much in the way of formal training, just a bit in HS and college, mostly to learn to "cope with solos in a crowd", "breath", "project" and use z instead of s so one doesn't hiss like a snake. ;)

It's an amazing feeling, no matter what one plays, when you finish performing, look out at the crowd and see the looks on people's faces knowing you touched something wonderous deep within them. :)

Talk about a "natural high". :D

10. A big cheer for the Sousaphone
It's one of only three instruments that I can think of which were named after specific people.

The saxophone and the ondes martinot being the other two.

I'm happy to accept correction in the form of other instruments.

9. I play piano...
I was forced to take lessons when I was a kid. Funny thing is, as much as I hated it then, I love the fact that I can play-and I'm "forcing" my kids to play as well.

I also play oboe and clarinet-I was a band geek in high school.

11. One of my biggest (of many) regrets in life is giving up the piano after
a few years, taking it during junior high. I wasn't the greatest but had a little talent for it.

When I listen to some of my favorites like Bill Evans or Oscar Peterson I have so much wistful regret that I can't play (not that I could ever play like THOSE guys).

Oh well, maybe not too late.

52. I.M.O. - they should be banned from schools
The recorder is one of the most beautiful instruments - in the hands of a half decent player, with some gorgeous baroque concerto, the ound is almost incomparable.

In the hands of a bunch of wretched school children it makes one want to commit suicide.
