A slightly odd combination for this evening's Prom.
Starts with a Haydn symphony - the absolute epitome of classical form (at times to the point of boredom), then jumps to Berg and Stravinsky (whose Rite of Spring is a most gorgeous piece - which I heartily recommend :bounce: ).

http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms/whatson/0709.shtml

A drumroll from Haydn introduces a rare London appearance by Zubin Mehta in the first of the Vienna Philharmonic's two Proms appearances this season. Our Berg centenary survey closes with the concert suite the composer made from his first opera Wozzeck, featuring the Swedish soprano who recently sang the role of Marie in the complete work at Covent Garden. And the concert ends with the climactic ritual sacrifice of Stravinsky's pagan ballet The Rite of Spring.

Anyhow - if you're interested it starts at 7:30 p.m. U.K. time, and is available on-line from http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3

Now this thread will promptly vanish without responses like all of my music threads.

3. always been a fan of: stravinsky's petruska...
his use of jazz syncopation ala 'ragtime for 11 players', was some of the first to be introduced into classical forms

4. He was one of those composers who really pushed music forwards
and did so in a most dramatic style.

Definite
