FOR years it has been painted as a brutal war between natives and invaders.

The red squirrel has long been fighting a losing battle against the influx of the more versatile grey squirrel, and is now a rare sight in the Lothians.

But it seems a new element has entered the battle for squirrel supremacy - the albino squirrel.

While not as rare as might be expected, white squirrels are an unusual sight, due to their coat being a rather unsuitable colour for trying to evade eagle-eyed predators.

4. Aside from rabies..

squirrels are very neat. One lives behind our building and is extremely friendly. When you pull the the driveway he comes running up and waits till you get out of the car. He then will follow you around like a cat, running between your legs, getting under foot and constantly trying to climb your leg. Of course this might be because the neighbor's girls contantly feed him (he is rather fat). Quite a character. Its funny when you try to go in the back of the building to go down stairs to do the laundry, you have to fend him off with your foot or he'll either run downstairs or hop in your laundry!
