Oh I hate those things. Making society an even ruder place. Yuk. I would get one only if I absolutely had to do so.

12. you seem like more of a Count Chocula man, imho...
That's a funny way to describe it, lol. I had a professor in Seattle who hated those things to death. He once was at an outdoor concert with a bunch of students for some class related activity, he told them all not to have their cell phones on etc. This girl got a call and started talking loudly as he was explaining something, so he just grabbed it out of her hand and threw it, haha. I don't know how well that went over but I loved that story. There used to be this website where these guys would go out, one with a camera and the other dressed up in this giant cell phone costume. When somebody would be walking by with a cell phone the guy in the costume would grab it out of their hands, throw it to the ground and stomp all over it, then run for his life, lol. It was great. People would just be in shock. Man, that guy probably has gotten brutally murdered by now. Somebody had to catch him.

14. hahaha
It's funny too, because I'm an electronics freak; I think it's because I hate phones to begin with on the privacy thing alone, so it just carries on from there..

7. I try to be as cordial as possible when I use mine .
Whenever I am out in public I have it on vibrate , and when I do get a call , I go to another area away from everyone else and I still talk as low as possible . I hate it whenever someone in my vicinity talks loudly on their cellphone with the " hey look at me I am on my cellphone " attitude :eyes:

8. what I hate is when
you are talking to somebody and they get a call. They just pull it out and start chattering away while you stand there like an idiot. That's the worst. I was so incensed when a friend did that to me it was all I could do to not blow up and start a fight with him. That to me is the rudest thing ever.

9. If I am already with someone in person , I will make the clal short
and call the person back later - because like you , I too think its rude when the other person is left there like an idiot . I have one because I don't have a landline and I work in another city away from home .

13. see that is acceptable
nothing wrong with taking a call and making it short. I hate it when people will yammer on about nothing and leave somebody standing there for several minutes. Those people should be shot, haha. :)

You're a kind person, so that goes without saying :)

We got into a wreck w/ a person last month w/ a person yakking on a cell phone instead of paying attention to their driving, so it's a sore spot (literally) to me these days..

24. Yes I remember posting about your wreck .
I am glad that you and Mrs. Eigmatic are alright . I pass by people on the road everyday that are on their cellphones rather than watching the road . Just last night someone ran the ran light as I was turning right into my street - they came out of no where and missed me by a couple of inches . Why ? - on their damn cell phone .

4. Yes
I was given it as a Christmas present by my mother

Whilst I don't use it very much - I have it with me all of the time.

One thing I have found useful is getting text-alerts. Over the summer I have received a daily message from the B.B.C. telling me what that evening's prom will be; plus I get major news alerts texted to me as well.

In fact - I probably use it twice as much for texts as for calls, if not more.

11. An FYI
Be careful what you text (and what others text to you). In the event you or someone who texts to you gets arrested, the police can pull the LUDs from the cell phones and get word for word copies of all text messages in question. Law and Order franchise.

16. The one's I write are usually along the lines of
"Hello little sister - haven't seen you for a while, how are you doing?"

Which aren't really going to get the police that excited.

28. I'm waiting for the phone of the future,
the Stem-cell phone. You grow it in your brain and you can communicate with people not only wirelessly, but phonelessly!. I practice this form of communication by walking around talking to myself and to my dog, even when she is not with me.

32. There was a "Terminator" book where the Terminator cyborg had
something like that. She could make and receive calls via an implant she had in her head, although when someone else was in the room she had to pick up a phone and pretend to be using it.

Don't try and tell me what I can and can't do with it.

I'm an adult. I am perfectly capable of talking on the phone and driving safely at the same time without some silly headset.

I know to turn it on vibrate when I'm going someplace where ringing would be obnoxious.

I know how to keep my conversations in small public places quiet, respectful and short.

I'm a responsible phone owner, and I'm sick and tired of the crusade some people have to regulate their use or vilify their users.

Oh, and nobody needs a camera or streaming video or games or ESPECIALLY text messaging on a PHONE. It's a PHONE - you TALK with it. Not take pictures. Or watch CNN. Or play Breakout. Or use a clumsy keypad to peck out messages to someone in three times the amount of time it would take to call them up and actually SPEAK.

I hate the damn things. I think they are evil.

But my dad had to get a blackberry and a new account for work... and he always pawns off his old gadgets on me... so now I have one.

I keep it in my car in case of emergency, but so far I've never used the little hellspawn.

Khash.
