About time for a happy NO story - 6-Year-Old Leads Five Toddlers To Safety
In the chaos that was Causeway Boulevard in New Orleans last Thursday, one group of survivors stood out: a 6-year-old boy walking down the road, holding a 5-month-old, surrounded by five toddlers who followed him around as if he were their leader.

They were holding hands. Three of the children were about two years old, and one was wearing only diapers. A three-year-old girl, who wore colorful barrettes on the ends of her braids, had her 14-month-old brother in tow. The 6-year-old spoke for all of them, and he told rescuers his name was Deamonte Love.

Thousands of human stories have flown past relief workers in the last week, but few have touched them as much as the seven children who were found wandering together Thursday at an evacuation point in downtown New Orleans. In the Baton Rouge headquarters of the rescue operation, paramedics tried to coax their names out of them; nurses who examined them stayed up that night, brooding.

1. These children were taken out by helicopter
HOW IN THE HELL DID THEY END UP WANDERING ALONE WALKING DOWN THE ROAD?

It says to me that the helicopter crew took them to dry ground and dumped them to fend for themselves. And never went back for their parents as they promised.

That crew should be fried.

2. well
it could have been that they were put on a roof by parents, or sent out of the house to safety by grandparents or others who couldn't leave, it's hard to know.

I don't think anyone would be so heartless as to leave 5 young children on the road.

3. Did you read the link?
The parents were there...the helicopter rescue told them to send the children out first and they'd be back in 25 minutes to get the adults. They never came back and then the kids were found on the road with the 6 year old in charge.

Somebody needs to be finding out why.

6. That's EXACTLY what happened.
I've been furious about this ever since I heard about it a few days ago. Dumped them by themselves on the fucking causeway, never went back for their parents--no food, no water, no one to look out for them....absolutely despicable.
