Oh my god is this child melting down...
It is her third birthday.
She's had a day full of presents and cake and running around.
Tonight, she blew out candles and had a slice of a very pretty but so-so tasting layer cake (shaped like a fish, and frosted in a rainbow!).

She asked for seconds. Her dad said no, she'd had enough, she could have more tomorrow. Onto the plate, loudly, went the fork. Off the chair went the child. Stomp stomp stomp. Sulk sulk sulk. A quiet tantrum, best ignored.

We started clearing the table.

"DON'T TAKE MY PLATE AWAY!"

Oh. Wow. She threw herself on the rug and just screamed "DON'T TAKE MY PLATE AWAY!" 900 times or so, while shredding a piece of wrapping paper. Then she took issue, loudly, with the fact that we covered the cake up and put it in the fridge.

Her dad just got her out of here, and is getting her to bed. I wish him the best of luck.

2. Uh-oh. Birthday overload...
A friend made a Superman cake for his son about 5 years ago, and that kid hasn't had anything colored with Red #40 since then! Do you know how much red food coloring goes into frosting for Superman's cape? Yoicks!
Give that sweet-and-sour little birthday girl plenty of water tomorrow-she'll have a sugar hangover! ;)

3. Yeah, that's a pretty normal part of child development.
And now you know why they say "insanity is hereditary; you get it from your kids."

5. Well, girl, dad and girlfriend, anyway.
(Mom lives in another city, and they had their celebration this morning and early afternoon.)

I think there will be some wine consumption later tonight...

6. Don't worry, she will mellow out soon- until she is 11 or 12.......
...then all hell will break loose! I admire people that choose to raise children, it must really try your patience at times. Me, I will have to settle for my dogs- I couldn't imagine me with a child, I ain't wired for it.
