When did "suck" become a bad word?

There are the cable vs dish commercials about how the cable bill sucks.

Then there are discussions like this:

To me sucking represents a sense of nourishment. Where did all the negativity come from? :shrug:

1. Well, IIRC

"Sucks" is really just a shortened version of "sucks dick".

Don't get why that's bad either, but I'm sure it has something to do with that whole Madonna/whore syndrome...

2. The Dish commercials crack me up

They manage to say "sucks" every two or three seconds. It sucks big time. It sucks really hard.

When I was a kid, it was always bad. Suckle is word for nourishment.
