The police shot a machete wielding loony 2 houses away
I was putting my bike into the car when a sheriff yells at me to get back inside the house, that there is a guy with a machete acting crazy. I say, "I'm leaving now", and get into the car without waiting for a response. I headed in the opposite direction that the cops (most of the Bay Area police and sheriffs it looks like). I got an In-n-out burger and returned to find out they had shot him and the whole neighborhood is taped up. Ihad to sneak back onto my block by cutting through the country club.

There are cop cars EVERYWHERE. This is Los Altos, CA. Nothing happens here. We have kids that steal stop signs and loud parties sometimes.... But never before a machete-wielding loony.
I feel like the whole world has been turned on it's head.

Maybe I picked a bad day to stop drinking.......:-(

1. Machetes don't kill people...
and looks like the guy who was holding a machete today didn't get to kill one either (We hope)

Good to see that you're alright

3. Where? Which side of Foothill? Which side of LA Blvd? Near 280? 85?

Sounds to me like you're just south of Magdalena between 280 and Foothill. (Rancho San Antonio was one of my favorite places for 15 years living in Silicon Valley.)

Fascinating. I wish I still lived in Monte Vista. (sigh)

9. I lived in Monte Vista 1983-1992 and Los Gatos 1997-2002.

Some of my happiest times were getting to Rancho San Antonio around 2-3pm, parking in the "horse parking lot" and hitting the trail. On good days I'd hike to the "bench" about 4 miles in and up, and then come back down to the 4H Club Farm and meander back to my car, feeling gooood and tired. Then I might treat myself to a falafel or two at Vivi's in Monte Vista ... and go back home and take a dip in the pool. (sigh)

I lived in the condo complex at the center of the map I linked to -- up NE of Foothill and Stevens Creek. (I'd miss the access to the ocean in NM or CO.)

4. one time, in this apartment building I used to live in
there was some dude screaming and ranting in Spanish and waving a machete around, right in front of the building. I was coming home from the bar, a bit drunk and very tired, and without thinking about it, I just walked right by him on the sidewalk and went inside. Just totally ignored him.

I felt bad about it later...I hope he didn't cut anybody!

10. That's why I don't visit you more often
First the house down the street explodes then the machete wielding loony gets shot, what next?

Never a dull moment in the suburbs..
