What political topic should I do for my Communications class?
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 04:05 PM by Heaven and Earth
So far in this class, I have had to hear about how great Donald Rumsfeld is and why a strawman version of affirmative action sucks.

I am thinking of talking about why feminists should rule the world:D Or maybe the virtues of socialism

1. You should do one about how Christian fundies hate Christian music!
That's keeping in line with communications!

2. Are comparisons of Sodom and Gomorrah to New Orleans
personal assaults on people disguised as religious rhetoric...

And is there any place for this misguided use of scripture in a modern pluralistic secular society

3. Why Rush and Hannity and Coare free to lie on a daily basis, but if Stern
says,"Penis" he has the FCC up his ass. The juxtaposition of the two always struck me as odd.

The professor in question is very nice, but it doesn't seem like she has enough material for a whole class (hour and twenty minutes) Not that I am complaining mind you;)

Where do you go to school and what year are you?

7. OMG, OMG, OMG. It sounds like we have a similar type of teacher. Do we?
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 04:59 PM by Jamastiene
I'm in a stupor right now because my english teacher is requiring "conferences" on my time to tell me I have to completely rewrite a paper. I have been upset since I didn't get the teacher I signed up for to begin with. This guy is such a prick that even the lady in the help center at the school wasn't sure what would please him. He's impossible to please. I hate this class. It's horrible. Too bad I can't write my narrative on how disappointed I am in having him as a teacher. I'm thinking about quitting and getting a degree through Thomson Education Direct now. I'll get a better education through them. I've had experience with them and the creds do count. They give out accredited degrees. I'm looking into it for next semester. I'm on financial aid though, so I am doomed this semester.

On edit: Sorry, I was so happy to hear someone else had the class from hell that I forgot to answer your question.

I don't know if you can get by with it, but I'd do a satire about Bush. I'd talk about what a great president he is and cite facts about how things have gone to hell since he took office. I'd point back to how Texas got screwed by him when he was governer and then talk about how wonderful it was that they ended up in last place as far as education and many other issues. In other words, I'd point out the truth and then talk about how great his job has been.

9. Is it a speech class?
Two of my speeches in a speech class were called

George W. Bush is an asshole. And I laid out why.

The other was Drugs weren't put here by God , and I spun the Rush Limbaugh argument about the Earth being perfect and for us to abuse into a pro-drug/alcohol/tobacco speech. Mostly drugs. Be sure to quote Genesis.

10. ...and Exodus. Freepers love Exodus more than Genesis and
if you quote anything from Deuteronomy, they'll give you a standing ovation.

13. How the right pollutes national discourse
Think about it. You could talk a bit about Rumsfeld, the insane things he gets away with saying in press conferences; another part could be how FOX News twists facts and uses every trick in the book (like, cough, strawman arguments) to mislead people--and when that doesn't work, call people traitors and shout them down.

You could give a great speech about communication in America and personally slap the wingnuts in the class at the same time.
