Cox Cable wanted to rip me off, so...

This past weekend, I was ready to order digital cable from, because their basic/extanded service simply sucks really bad. Adding the service and 4 extra receivers would run the monthly bill to no less than $145 :wow: With NO movie channels either! That's one of the biggest ripoffs ever :argh: And Monday I got a promotional mail frm Verizon (my phone company and DSL provider), and now they offer DirecTV. Yeah yeah I know, butCox was also the bunch pf jerks who wanted to take ESPN off the air, and I haven't forgotten that stunt. So DirecTV--$55/month, HBO package for 4 rooms,can upgrade to HD later. Or fuky ass Cox, my dad currently paying $50 and change for..regualt service plus a few channels we don't even care about, NO HBO, NO HD options. Besides, I'm paying for the DirecTV, so I can add more stuf as I go along. So this is my birthday present :-) Then an xbox 360 in November. HDTV? Maybe, maybe for Christmas, if not by February.

my bill went down and yet I have many more channels. Not to mention, I just moved to the boonies where there is no cable or DSL for internet, and we had to get DirecWay as well.

I was very upset with Cox, and they dragged their feet briing their broadband service to my area too. Back in college $50/month got us 3 movie channels (on campus), now that won't even cover basic and the tax. Mi DirecTV service will be about $50 anc change with 7 channels of HBO (along with the Basic package-that's more than enough for me).

And why not? The sponsors want you hooked.

I've got digital with 3 premium channels and splurged for an addon that gives me a few specialty channels, and it doesn't break $100. How much are they charging for the extra converters?

for a total of 4 digital boxes, NOt DVRs, just the box on 4 tv sets. NO premium channels, no other add on channels either.

did you look at Dish Network instead ?
