1. Even as I type this, we are all decaying, falling apart, dying by degree.
Our pitiful efforts are but hollow pantomine in a cold, uncaring world. We are cut loose from out tethers, unseen, utterly alone, orphans all.

Plus, it's impossible to get a good table at a restaurant these days.

Cheers! :toast:

3. I hear ya mutt
Are we too far gone, are we so irresponsible
Have we lost our balls, or do we just not care
We're terminal cases that keep taking medicine
Pretending the end isn't quite that near
We make futile gestures, act to the cameras
With our made up faces and PR smiles
And when the angel comes down to deliver us
We'll find after all, we're only men of straw

5. Thanks for the reminder
You know I'm no doctor
I'm only crowding words just to ease the pain
Whatever you do, never, never rely on me
I'm not a happy kid, I'm barely getting by

Don't cry to me about your love affairs
I can't help you there
I've no patience for bleeding on my floor
Take your wounds elswhere
(You won't find answers here)

Happy Rhodes (trails in my case)

4. There was a time..
Edited on Thu Nov-13-03 06:22 AM by SoCalDem
when kids could get on their bikes after lunch and disappear for HOURS...returning at dusk for supper.. and Mom & Dad did not have to call the FBI

You could get 6 loaves of bread for a dollar

A gallon of milk cost 89 cents

Our first house cost us 39,900.00...1800 SqFt..on 1/2 acre.. it had been a model (3 yrs old) and had upgrades everywhere.. a sodded front & back lawn.. a 12x12 redwood deck with a built-in gas grill

My girlfriends Dad about had a cow when he found out how much her new car was gonna cost him,.. a 1966 White mustang convertible with red leather seats and even A/C... $2,164.00

My husband's car payment for his brand new 1966 GTO was $83.60 per month

Kids were not stuck in daycare from 6 am to 6 pm

Families took vacations every year

Families bought new cars every few years....

You could find salamanders, frogs and toads everywhere there was water...

You could actually drink straight from a fast flowing stream..)without dying)

Fireflies.. June Bugs..Butterflies..

sure , people made less money then, but comparably, a blue collar dad could support his family AND still save for cars and college (there was no plastic then)some Moms worked part time, but most could afford to stay home and raise their kids at least until they were in school all day..

6. OK, now you done did it
Brand new state!
Brand new state, gonna treat you great!
Gonna give you barley, carrots and pertaters,
Pasture fer the cattle,
Spinach and termayters!
Flowers on the prarie where the June bugs zoom,
Plen'y of air and plen'y of room,
Plen'y of room to swing a rope!
Plen'y of heart and plen'y of hope.
Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain
And the wavin' wheat can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain.
Oklahoma, Ev'ry night my honey lamb and I
Sit alone and talk and watch a hawk
Makin' lazy circles in the sky.
We know we belong to the land
And the land we belong to is grand!
And when we say
Yeeow! Ayipioeeay!
We're only sayin'
You're doin' fine, Oklahoma!
Oklahoma O.K.

Take my Oscar Hammerstein and suffer!

8. I was there, SoCalDem -- I wanna go back!
The freeways were "free" -- no traffic jams. Could fly from WLA to Northridge in 20 minutes (had to watch the on-ramps for CHP).

Nostalgia ain't what it used to be --

9. Now *you* really went and did it ("I wanna go back!")
4.37 Am

There were Arab with knives
At the foot of the bed
Right at the foot of the bed
Arab :"Don't cut the woman Mohamed,
I want the woman"
Oh my Good how did they get in here?
I thought we were safe home in England
She said "Come on now kid, it was wrong what you did
You've got to admit it was wrong."
Man :"Oh good....Jesus"
Sleep Sleep
I know that I'm only dreaming
Man :"Leave her alone..get out..out..get out of my house"
Through closed eyes
I see West German skies on the ceiling
And I want to go back
To the girl with the rucksack
To feel her flaxen hair
I want to be there

Thank You Roger Waters (and mutt for the reminder)

13. Thanks mort
I saw my name in your hand,
I turned around and ran,
But to you or from you it's all the same,
To you or from you it's the same thing.

He says we're all alone,
He builds himself a home,
He builds it out of hair and teeth and fingernails and bones,
He hides it in his heart,
Then he tears it all apart,
He plasters all the pieces up with glue and calls it art,
He's a man with two left shoes,
He's a pretty cockatoo,
His song is full of sadness but he's beautiful in blue.

I need to be alone tonight,

ANd thank you Lauren Hoffman for the boost

14. You blow me away izzie
It's only when the high winds blow that I wish my hair was long
Sailing through the autumn leaves singing an ancient song
Or falling in love in the streets at night at the edge of a local square
It's only that I'm here tonight thinking I was there

There are high winds on the pier tonight, my soul departs from me
Striding like Thalia's ghost south on the murky sea
And into midnight's tapestry she fades, ragged and wild
Searching down her ancestry in the costume of a Persian child

So does Joan Baez - thanks!

15. That does not compute
Nor does it rhyme with anything in my mind

But thanks jono! and for that you get...

"And if I am elected
I promise the formation of a new party
A third party, the Wild Party!
I know we have problems,
We got problems right here in Central City,
We have problems on the North, South, East and West,
New York City, Saint Louis, Philadelphia, Los Angeles,
Detroit, Chicago,
Everybody has problems,
And personally, I don't care."

16. I'll tell you something really depressing...
Pam Courson & Jim Morrison's dads - neither of whom approved of their children's lifestyles or liked their music or treated them decently while they were living - are still getting 1/4 of the royalties on every Doors recording!
