Who else is from Wisconsin?
There seems to be a disproportionate number of WI DUers. How many of us are there?

Any one in or near the Milwaukee area want to get together some time? (I'm jealous of Boston, I freely admit it.)

I'm in Waukesha, BTW.

Am in Osceola. I look across the river (St. Croix) and there is MN. So am on the other side of the state. About 50 miles to MPLS.

57. You've got good eyes...
if you can see the St.Croix from Osceola! My mother graduated from Osceola HS (in 41) and I have been there a few times. Seems like it is a few miles to the river from there (but a lovely town nonetheless).

I was born in Hudson, on a hill overlooking the St. Croix, and you can literally see Minnesota from there. I'll be back later this month for a visit. Even though I have not lived there for 27 years, I'll always be a Badger.

2. Checking in from the Central Wisconsin plains
Edited on Thu Nov-13-03 11:18 AM by sybylla
The most boring landscape in the state. And, unfortunately, about 60/40 repuke.

Thank goddess the winds died down last night. Thought I was going to loose a tree there for a little while.

on edit: love to get together, but I don't get to that corner of the state very often. As a matter of fact, I don't get out of the county much at all anymore. My hubby and I have a business and most of this year he has been on the road so I'm chained to the office.

That's why we haven't joined our business in with any of the chambers of commerce here. Not interested in plastering a phony smile on my face to schmooze with those people just so my business can get a few minor benefits.

I was always going to ask you if you knew the Wagner that was a guidance counselor at the Jr. High in Marshfield. He was a great guy and I haven't seen him around in a while.

There are a lot of Wagners running around loose....more loose than locked up, probably related but very distantly.

28. I used to work for a Stratford company...
...that had an engineering office in the Milwaukee area until they shut it down in '98. With the exception of a couple nice people (one engineer, one extremely cool purchasing person, a couple of the electricians, a welder or two) that outfit was a Repuke good ol' boy hell. Hated the micromanaging Vice President, hated the project managers (who all seemed to be brothers,) especially hated that one loudmouthed fat dickhead engineer. Glad I don't work for those guys anymore.

They keep reformulating their control engineering department every other year. They've gotten rid of it at least once and have now revived it again. I know a few dems who work there, but just about all businesses around here are puke businesses.

for an Ag manufacturing firm in Marshfield.

In the last few years, the owner went really fundamentalist on us

Worse yet, I had to handle Customer Service for a year or two and fielded calls from Newt Gingrich's boiler room soliciting extra contributions from the owner.

15. i go to school in chicago
and live there most of the time, but my folks and dogs live in prairie du chien, which i've come to love and at the same time despise, just a little bit. but the people are wonderful, and that's saying a lot: my folks are a mixed race couple and the town is almost all white. i suppose it helps my folks are "upper class" in that town and can afford to play golf.

overall, i've found WI filled with rural progressives. there was even a protester once in a little town down the road with a big sign about the SOA.

and we cannot forget the Real Hero, Russ. we all know how he voted, there's a man who can stick to his guns.

Liberal? Conservative? We don't give a shit.

Just grab a brat an' a beer, come down by da lake, and enjoy yourself.

Seriously, Sheboygan is liberal AND conservative.

Funny story, I met this gal once and we get to talking and I could tell by her accent where she was from and I say, "so what part of Milwaukee are you from?" and she gives me this look like I've 2 heads. "How did you know that?' Freaked her out. The accent is a dead give away. Curiously, people from the Hudson River valley area of New York ahve a similar accent.

27. Here I am, smack dab in the middle of Madison's isthmus
Well, right near the middle of it, anyway.

I grew up about 10 miles outside of Waukesha in what used to be a farm town, but is becoming a commuter-community. Went to school at UW-Waukesha Extension for way, way too long. Lived in Milwaukee's East Side for quite awhile, too, as well as shorter stints in various places like the near south side, and the 'West Bank' (ie., near North side).

I went to High School with that scurvy RAT Scott Jensen (a year or two behind him). He was as slimy then as he is now. Quite the drinker and pot-smoker (and cheerleader-groper), as I recall...

One of my favorite Wisconsin things: Freshwater marshes. Love 'em. Love the smell, love the flora and fauna -- feel right at home. I've spent a lot of time roaming about 'The Kettle' (Moraine), too.
