I too am no prude, but some of the "topics" I've seen floating by, make me think about good folks who can be easily made uncomfortable.

I can guarantee that you guys have lost eyeballs due to this.

this will go a long way towards improving the overall quality of the input at this site. i guess i'm a prude for political reasons; i don't feel like we have the time to waste talking about purient and childish matters, at least not here.
that said, perhaps a "dating lounge" or something would be a good substitute? DUers are often isolated and lonely because of their views, and i have met a lot of good people that i can imagine getting along with in the, ahem, flesh. just a thought.

Could we get some consensus to finally shut down that "thread that won't die". Someone comes on everyday and kicks it some way or other and it then pushes several active threads off the front page.

I know Skinner and company were using it as a software test, but come on already. A thousand post thread with nothing to offer is pushing other fun stuff off the Lounge front page. That seems a stupid use of bandwidth and everyone else's time.

there's a simple solution if you don't want to be offended by a thread about sex. Don't go read it. :eyes: If it's too weird for you - don't click on it. If it's TMI - back out of it and don't read any more.

If no one was interested in those posts they would die. The fact the they get responses tells you there are some people on the board who want to talk about it in a "safe" environment. Plus it's a way of blowing off steam when GD gets to be too much.

And where are you gonna draw the line? I know I'm often one of the worst offenders around here in terms of innuendo. Am I gonna get deleted now every time someone jokes with me about paddles?

the sex talk, I mean. Nearly every net forum and email list I've been on over the years goes through these cycles of escalating randiness, then things get shut down (either by mass complaint, administrative action, or sometimes they just die out of their own initiative). When not controlled, I've seen them actually ruin a site for the non-participants - it can be pretty bad for someone who's logging on to check the political news of the day trying to explain to their spouse or their mother that, no, this isn't a porn site, it just happens that all the raunchy stuff got bumped to the top.

We've been through quite a few cycles of it here before. People move on to other things.

I understand why some of the topics have been deleted. I even understand the limits set here today. I also want to make it very clear that sex and matters of sexuality and sexual freedoms are near and dear to some of our hearts. Some of us even make these issues a large part of our political leanings and in some it is even a one issue voter item.

I'm not endorsing discussions about technique for some pratice, on the other hand matters of sexuality are important to discuss here. We as Democrats are the party that should stand up for sexual rights and equality for everyone. I am not however trying to advocate for raunchy discussions about sexual positions etc ... There is a time and a place for such things and anyone (especialy pretty young women) that need some pointers in finding them should be encouraged to PM me.

So look, I for one set up this account so as to be able to discuss these matters with some sense of privacy, I have another account but I'm not telling who I am. The Admins know and I trust them to some degree with that information and doubt they would come out and out me.

So look, you're right, threads about slobbing the knob and what position you prefer are pointless as far as politcal discourse goes, fun, but politicaly pointless.

May I suggest a few posable threads that would have some meat to them, and NO DAMNIT, I'm not trying to be punny!
