Okay, for all you country and folk lovers, Slaid Cleeves....
I saw him tonight in a bar in Cleveland, the Rock-n-Roll capital of the world which, BTW, is not being visited by either Cold Play or Depeche Mode on their current tours...

After spending the evening with this very gifted and soft singing guitar playin' story teller, well I say who needs the big acts....

This guy had more passion and showed us more about life than anything I have ever heard for either of those headline acts.....

And I do like their music, it just seems to me to be too constructed, to devoid of real emotion and feeling....

Slaid, well he ran the gamut from funny songs like If it Wasn't for Divorces and Horses to heart rendering real people ballads such as Broke Down, the story of a band of gold with words of love written on the inside layin' at the bottom of Lake Ponchetrain....

All I can say is thank god for Austin Texas, the city that Nashville loves to hate, the city that nurtures talented music while the rest of the country turns a deaf ear.....

If you get a chance, listen to this young man sing.... Catch him now, he will be a star someday. And since Cleveland loves this guy, we will keep him...

The rest of you can have Cold Play... And I'd say we would get the better of it.....

with Russel Crow who told him one of his songs Fucking got to him.....

It was an hilarious story....

Then he sang a folk song about a log jam that went horribly wrong only made it funny, if such a thing is possible,,,,,

11. The log jam song is "Breakfast in Hell"
It's one of my favorites from him. Did he have the crowd do the "Oo - Ah's"?

I really would have liked to be there.

20. Fred fan here, and I also am a fan of Slaid
Slaid isn't quite as sarcastic as Fred is in concert.

14. He's actually originally from Vermont
Or one of those other little bitty NE states.

He moved to Austin because he knew he could make it there with the type of music he does.

We love him but can't claim him originally.

16. From Maine
Itty bitty states, indeed FSC!
He was in a band called the Moxie Men before he decided to move to Austin where the music scene suited his style.
Slaid is a great storyteller and has very entertaining narrative in concert.

17. Ack sorry, Gorm. He's a Maine-ah.
Ya gotta understand. Anything smaller than Alaska looks little tiny to us Texans.

We think nothing of a 300 mile road trip for the weekend. "Just down the road" in Georgetown is how I think of my cousin, who's 200 something miles away.

21. I know. ; -)
Mainiacs could travel 300 miles without leaving that state but it would be an awfully long trip what with the paucity of wide, straight roads on flat land, not to mention the problem of "you can't get there from here."
