1. That has to be one of the saddest songs ..
It always makes me cry.

You know,
she came to see him one last time.
Aww, 'n' we all wondered if she would.
And it kept runnin' through my mind
"this time he's over her for good."

god i love George Jones.

2. See now that guy, he knows country.
Was it he who said "Garth Brooks did for country music what pantyhose did for fingerfucking." ?

Either way, he's good.

4. George Jones is a god
Just read about his life. It reads like the best country song ever. I'm amazed he's still alive.

I suspect he's pretty surprised, too. Just his marriage to Tammy Wynette should have killed both of them.

Great entertainer.

It sure is a heartbreaker, even without that.

7. Yeah. It's a well-crafted song, too.
My Dad was in the music biz for decades. He met a lot of the greats like Johnny Cash and Willie. I'm no country fan, but I do respect people like that... I don't know if he ever me George Jones, though.

He said Dolly Parton was just about the most genuinely nice person in the world.

8. Well, it may be a bit belated, but I'm sorry for your loss.
Your dad sounds like an interesting chap.

9. Thanks! He was!
He was one of those people who knew about all sorts of things -- astronomy, history, the English language, classical music. A real Renaissance guy. He died two years ago almost exactly. Thanks for your comments. :hi:

14. The day he found his daddy dead, MrG played this song over and
over. His father's story is long and heartbreaking. Suffice to say, it is word for word his life after MrG's mother left.
