Poll question: The next great space adventure?
We need another great space adventure, like the moon shot of the 60s/70s. But what should we do next?

Personally I vote for building a space station on the moon. I mean the whole nine yards with a runway and science facilities.

Here's why. The moon's gravity is much lighter than our own, which means that launching from the moon would be more economical (cheaper) since a ship would require less fuel. If we had a station on the moon, we would have a permanent place that could be used to explore the moon itself for water and minerals not found on earth.

The moon could also be used as a giant telescope (without dust interference, like here on Earth), a communications satellite, and even source of energy.

Finally, we could use the moon for further manned exploration to Mars and elsewhere.

We've built a space station and gone to the moon. How hard can it be to actually build a space station on the moon?

But that's my opinion. But what do you think our next great adventure in space should be. Please give a response to explain your answer.

1. I'd like to see..
us set up bases on Deimos and Phobos.

We could use those remote locations as testing grounds for radical experiments. Like perhaps teleportation.

I want to volunteer to be a marine at either facility!

Kennedy, Johnson, even Clinton. The GOP got their endless wars. We got space exploration.

When Dean or Clark become Pres. they had better start up some serious space fun.

You're not doing jack until you find a cheap, reliable, and ecologically friendly method of getting off this planet.

This is technically feasible.

This is what the US lost when Bush took office and bankrupted the country.

6. Venus?
Venus is unhabitable. It is way too hot.

If you want to terraform anything try Mars. One of it's moons are set to collide with it in another couple of hundred years or so. Maybe we could speed up that. Load it with different germs and the like that would spread seed around the planet. The heat of the blast would melt the water on Mars. Voila, one habitable planet.

It could work.
