I Feel I Should Apologise....

I started, I believe, 97.8 % of the sex threads on around here recently.

If they became boring, monotonous, immature (well, in a way they were designed to be like that), sexist, offensive or just plain old too much to handle - I'm sorry.

I feel responsible, and really shitty. I mean, it's one thing to get a thread locked. It's another thing to get a whole topic locked. Now others can't post because of me. :(

Once again, I'm sorry. I shall give myself 50 lashings and an indian burn.

Feel free to whack me with a paddle or jab me with a pointed stick, I probably deserve it.

I think it got way beyond what is reasonable for a political website. Many of us participated. I don't think anyone person is responsible, but I think many libs would not want to become a DU member with what was occuring in the Lounge recently. I hope a short term moratorium will occur and we can get back to the old DU.

I for one do not understand what the big damn deal is. This is the Lounge for pete's sake. You want political commentary - go to GD or LBN or one of the topic specific forums. I thought the point of the Lounge was to talk about things that weren't politics - like sex and music and sports and kittens. :eyes:

My solution for those who were offended remains the same. If you don't want to read sex threads then DON'T open them. I don't like threads about cats. You don't see me bitching. I just don't open them.

I refuse to put on a hairshirt and beat my breast in shame.

It's nice the you're sorry Rat and I am admittedly a little annoyed at you for helping to make this happen...but I'll get over that. May take longer for me to get over some of the holier-than-thou attitude from other members of this board. I'm tired of some of the Lounge bashing that's been going on lately and I just think this is the most extreme example of it.

Let's face it people. The world in a scary place right now and only getting scarier. For some of us the reaction is to get a little silly as a means of coping. Thanks ever so much for taking that outlet away.

I'm getting sick of DU turning lately into a censorship haven...

Now, some of the sex threads were getting out of control, it probably was only a matter of time before one popped up that honestly offended a lot of people or had pictures (gulp)...

But still, locking ALL sex threads???....Seems a bit draconian if you ask me.

This is the one forum I frequent where intelligent and like-minded folks really let their hair down, so to speak. If people don't want to read about sex, don't open the thread. It's that simple.

And now I can't talk about sex because it offends some people and I can't talk about kitties because it offends VelmaD. What is left?? Can my life get any more boring??

I never said you couldn't talk about kittens. I just won't go read about it. See, I'm a grown-up and I'm perfectly capable of avoiding things I don't want to see. :-)

I became pretty annoyed with those sex threads.

I am one of the most open minded women I know and even I started to get annoyed by your threads and by the whole feeling of walking through mudpiles of sex threads in the lounge.

I thought it had gotten to a point where I would call the lounge sexist.. and it takes ALOT for me to call something sexist.

I am really grateful Skinner did something about it.. I hope by the time I'm feeling better (have had a horrible flu last days throwing up like hell and generally looking like a ghost) I'll enjoy the lounge some more.

A little sex chat now and then isn't offensive; it's when it gives the impression of being a XXX website that things need regulating.

I will admit though that some of these threads gave me an inferiority complex. Some of you people lead some really interesting lives.
