L.A. Dodgers' Gagne Wins Cy Young Award
I thought I'd post this so that all DUers could see who the best reliever in baseball is. This happened despite the assertions of a fellow poster that Mariano Rivera is a better relief pitcher. No contest!

By RONALD BLUM, AP Sports Writer

NEW YORK - Eric Gagne of the Los Angeles Dodgers (news) became the first relief pitcher in 11 years to win a Cy Young Award, easily beating San Francisco's Jason Schmidt for the National League (news) honor.

Gagne, who converted all 55 of his save opportunities, received 28 of 32 first-place votes and 146 points in balloting released Thursday by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

1. Gagne is by far the best closer
He has how many consecutive saves? 60?

3. 63 consecutive
He converted his last 8 in '02, and all 55 this year. Both the total and single season marks set new records for consecutive saves without blowing one.

Now, if the Dodgers could just find someone who can hit the damn ball....

2. good for him. he deserved to win.
of course, you'll have people crying about how relievers shouldn't be eligible, but that is a load. These closers come in facing a lot of pressure.

5. good for Gagne
in a critical game I would go with Rivera over Gagne no questions asked.

Its about time relievers were considered for the Cy again.
