28. Yeah, he said it was his favorite "Lennon/McCartney"
;-)

George was indeed the best Beatle--I cried so hard when I found out he had passed away!

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is my favorite.

32. harrison wrote that?
I thought it was a collaboration... but if it is george, then geesh, it is up there with my sweet lord for me... also i don't know the name... The whole seargant peppers is a classic. I have it downstairs for a rainy day... or a mushroom day ;-)

"blackbird singing in the dead of night, take these broken wings and learn to fly, all your life, you are only waiting for this moment to arrive."... blackbird? Was that harrison?

13. The other day while out running errands
with my 10 year old daughter, I started singing "Piggies." At first she thought I was making it up, so when we got home I played it for her. She loved it. Dawned on me you can substitute "repukes" for Piggies and have a truthful, contemporary song.

George was ahead of his time.

We were riding bikes, stopped on a little bridge, and looked down at the stream. I started singing "Look at all the little fishies swimming in the brook..." She didn't believe it was a real song, either.

But any one of your songs in the poll are great. All of the Beatles are great but George Harrison was my favorite. This thread is bliss.

25. "With every mistake, we must surely be learning...."
Awesome song.
--------------
I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping
Still my guitar gently weeps
I don't know why nobody told you how to unfold your love
I don't know how someone controlled you
They bought and sold you.

I look at the world and I notice it's turning
While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps
I don't know how you were diverted
You were perverted too
I don't know how you were inverted
No one alerted you.

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
Look at you all...
Still my guitar gently weeps.

26. I'm So Happy Just to Dance with You.
If you watch A Hard Day's Night wait til this song comes on (when they are on the train). It is a little surreal for 1964 and quite a little masterpiece of filmography. Richard Lester should be very proud of that and so should George, of course.

29. perspective...
Harrison wrote that when he was being taxed in the neighborhood of 85-90%, so I wouldn't call it whining. The UK has a tad more aggressive tax system than we do....of course, the wingnuts will appropriate anything that suits their neanderthal agenda, obscene though it may be.

Edited on Thu Nov-13-03 08:45 PM by Norbert
And this was a sore subject with other rock musicians as well. Ray Davies (The Kinks) Sunny Afternoon comes to mind as another song that had a reference to the excessive tax.

34. All Things Must Pass
Yeah, I know it was released as a solo record. But the song was written during the Let It Be sessions, and is on the bootlegs with the whole band, including some harmonies from John and Paul that ehhhhh, let's say they were a "work in progress". And then there's the demo version on the Anthology III CD, which more or less makes it an "official" Beatles song.

35. He was my favorite Beatle when I was about 11 or 12,
and continued to be into adulthood. I voted for "Something," but it could have just as easily been "While My Guiter Gently Weeps." I'd say those are two of my favorite Beatles songs, even without narrowing the category down to the writer.

42. Not by Harrison...
Although George recorded it, "Got My Mind..." was an old song by someone named Rudy Clark.

However, I like the Weird Al parody so much, I'm going to post the lyrics!

(This Song's Just) Six Words Long

This song's just six words long.
This song's just six words long.
This song's just six words long.
This song's just six words long.

Couldn't think of any lyrics,
No I never wrote the lyrics,
So I'll just sing any old lyrics,
That come to mind, child.

You really need words,
Whole lotta rhyming words,
You gotta rhyme so many words, mm-mm,
To do it, to do it, to do it, to do it,
To do it, to do it right, child.

This song's just six words long.
This song's just six words long.
This song's just six words long.
This song's just six words long.

I know that you're probably sore,
'Cause I didn't write any more,
I just didn't get to complete it,
So that's why I gotta repeat it.

This song's just six words long.
Six words long.
This song's just six words long.
Six words long.

Oh I make a lotta money,
They pay me a ton of money,
They're payin' me plenty of money,
To sing this song, child.

I gotta fill time,
Three minutes worth of time,
Oh, how will I fill so much time, mm-mm?
I'll throw in a solo, a solo, a solo,
A solo, a solo here.

This song's just six words long.
This song's just six words long.
This song's just six words long.
This song's just six words long.

This song's got nothin' to say,
But I'm recording it anyway,
I know if I put my mind to it,
I know I could find a good rhyme here.

Oh, you gotta have-a music,
You need really catchy music,
This song has got plenty of music,
But just six words, child.

And so I'll sing' em over,
And over and over and over,
And over and over and over, mm-mm,
And over and over and over,
And over and over and over again.

Six words long, six words long.
Six words long, six words long.
Six words long, six words long.

This song's just six words long.
It's just six words long.

39. In All Fairness
Some of the songs that would get a lot of votes -- like "My Sweet Lord," are not Beatles songs.

"All Things Must Pass" was one of my favorite albums senior year in high school. My favorite track is "Run of the Mill." And I love "It's Johnny's Birthday," just as a fun song.

And George was my favorite Beatle. It's very sad that's he's gone, but life goes on within him and without him.
